MONDAY – What is leadership? Welcome to camp! Campers play games to get to know each other and get excited for the week ahead. After boosting their energy, we begin to answer some tough questions—What is leadership? Why are we here? Each camper is divided into teams for the rest of the week, who they will work with during physical challenges to win points during each activity. Campers identify their strengths and core values and finish the day with a game of secret kickball before the group party!
TUESDAY – Vision of a Leader Campers begin their 2-day workshop in Intercultural Communication where they learn how to become better leaders using simple communication techniques that help resolve conflict. Campers meet a panel of UWC Costa Rica students, who share their personal leadership roles at UWC. They end the day making creative visionboards with collages of inspiring images.
WEDNESDAY – Social Responsibility Students discuss social responsibility and how to reach community goals by helping others in interactive games and group activities. In the afternoon, campers visit El Triangulo Solidario—a squatter community in San José—to meet with local entrepreneurs and learn about the work that Boy with a Ball Foundation is doing there.
THURSDAY – Investing in and Valuing Others Campers reflect about their visit to El Triangulo Solidario and how leadership means investing in others to make a positive impact. Monica, a Boy with a Ball volunteer, shares a personal testimony inspiring students to be more caring leaders. Campers team up to design games that challenge their peers to apply what they have learned. The Conflict Transformation workshop comes next! They pick up tools on growing empathy and non-violent communication.
FRIDAY – Positive Leaders As the week draws to a close campers get busy with final reflections, the presidential rally, and team awards. An entire day of passionate campaigning results in the successful election of our 2016 Camp President, Soleil, and the award for most points going to team “Bros.” Campers exchange information with their new friends and already start planning for their next reunion!
