MONSANTO COMPANY ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES monsanto company employs the following environmental management guidelines in its global operations :
• Consideration of water conservation approaches, particularly in areas of water scarcity. Provision for safe drinking water and proper sanitation facilities at all manufacturing operations. • Dialogue with the communities in which the company operates. • Waste minimization with focus on source reduction, reuse and recycling. • Minimization of releases to the environment, protection of groundwater and soil quality, and respect for biodiversity. • Implementation of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) at all large chemical manufacturing facilities and smaller facilities as appropriate. • Periodic facility-specific auditing to assure compliance with company environmental policies as well as country, state and local environmental requirements/standards. • Reporting of environmental performance to stakeholders and the public through programs like the Global Reporting Initiative. • Benchmarking with industry and other groups to stay current with the latest technologies. • Consideration of societal and environmental impacts in the capital planning and review process. • Use of energy efficiency standards in engineering and construction projects. This includes consideration of green building methods and certification (e.g., LEED) when constructing or modifying significant research and office facilities. • Responsible management of environmental contamination associated with past operations. • Minimization of the use and release of ozone depleting substances.
