ABOUT THE COACH

Led by Head Coach John Armitage who is the longest serving university rowing coach in Canada, our coaching staff has over 50 years of experience. All Queen’s coaches are committed to continued development through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). John has represented Canada as an athlete at the World Rowing Championships, and as a coach at the World University Games. He is a past winner of the 3M Canada Rowing Coach of the Year, Ontario University Association (OUA) Coach of the Year, the Rolf Lund ‘Jule Nisse’ Award as Ontario’s top amateur coach and Canadian University Rowing Association (CURA) Coach of the Year, and is a member of Kingston’s Sport Hall of Fame. “Throughout my tenure as Head Coach at Queen’s, I’ve been honoured to contribute to the development of some tremendous studentathletes. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the top

graduating Queen’s athletes are consistently drawn from the rowing team. Rowing requires an exceptional level of dedication and perseverance that extends into academic success. At Queen’s, we are proud to offer a performance-driven program where you can achieve all of your academic and athletic goals. While our boathouse is among the best-equipped in the nation, it is the quality of people on the team that makes the difference, and keeps me coming back each year. I hope you’ll consider Queen’s as the next step in your rowing career.” - John Armitage

MORGAN JARVIS

It quickly became clear that only Queen’s would provide the environment I needed for academic and sporting excellence. Ten years and three Queen’s degrees later, I couldn’t imagine how my life would be if I hadn’t gone to Queen’s.” – Morgan Jarvis, former Queen’s Rower and London 2012 Olympic Rower
