NautiWoods began with an existing 1988 post and beam ‘Aframe’ home nestled into the hillside overlooking Saltworks Creek in Annapolis, MD. The clients wanted to preserve the cabin-like exterior as-is while updating the 1988 interior kitchen, living, dining, bathrooms and master suite. They envisioned a modern, environmentally-friendly, light-filled, Scandinavianstyle retreat. The owners named their project ‘NautiWoods’ to reflect their love of sailing and of their home in the woods. The clients have lived in several countries over the years and sailed through many oceans. They have an extraordinary collection of furniture, antiques and decorative pieces, each deserving a space reflective of their uniqueness and character. The project incorporated a large round window to mimic the portholes of a ship. The teak floor used in the master bath is salvaged from a previous sail boat project and a salvaged hatch pull ring was set into the kitchen window seat. Corner windows, skylights, and a folding glass door system infuse the rooms with light. The existing wood flooring, stair, and ceiling planks were whitewashed to bring light from the windows further into the rest of the house. Locally produced concrete countertops and wood cabinets grace the kitchen and baths. S T A I R C A S E
