What is 100K+? • • • •
100K=Named streams 100K+ DWR Named streams (BIMS) Classifications data joined to 100K plus (GIS) Plus what?
Zebulon Quad – almost did a TMDL Little River because this name only existed in a map drawer in DWQ Planning AWI

USGS v DWR • • • • • •
DWR has descriptions Names are slightly different (GNIS v BIMS) DWR has more named streams (the +) DWR Names and Descriptions are NC law Geometry is the same Removed the USGS attributes (050 0205)
Names Issue • DWR had more than GNIS – Neuse River N=43 to 1 – Cape Fear River N=36 to 1
• DWR no longer naming or drawing in water – Adding streams to WRAPS as needed – 12-84-1-(0.5)ut14ut13
• Currently GNIS 12,708 DWR 12,275 – Working in 2015 to sort this out – 5,817 Names are different

This is how you stop out of control stream naming
Rules • • • • • •
USGS and NRCS Topo map is a stable product? US Topo program What is the 1:24,000 product? At least six different versions Rules impact many water programs at all levels.
What is the 1:24,000? • • • • •
Old versions of topo maps Old DLGs and some new and modified New digital topo maps NHD downloads US Topo base product
Next Steps • DWR has an interpretation for NRCS maps but not for USGS 24k • 24k dataset is not considered stable by DWR staff based on recent changes made • DWR staff are meeting internally to develop recommendations for a dataset and for stream rules. • StreamMAC is continuing to meet to get business cases from all users.
