NOTE: Transmissions with late-style (large square) neutral safety switches also have a different manual lever on the valve body (see Figure 1). If you are using a late-style case AND a late valve body, you MUST change the manual lever on the valve body to the early style for the switch to function correctly (see Figure 2).
Installation/ Assembly steps: 1. Remove safety selector switch and insert from late-model case using the Chrysler removal/installation tool No. 8581 (not supplied). 2. Place the copper washer onto the aluminum adapter and thread into the case using the same removal/installation tool No. 8581 (with plastic sleeve removed). 3. Add the o-ring to the early style three-wire neutral safety switch and thread into the adapter. 4. To verify that the switch is operating properly, check that the starter operates only in Park and neutral gears and does not crank in forward or reverse. Verify back-up light function.
