New England Trail Rider Association March 19, 2014
President’s Message NETRA Members, As we slowly emerge from the toughest winter I can remember, the off-road riding season is almost upon us. The NETRA competition season has already kicked off with the 60th annual Snow Run Enduro. The Connecticut Ramblers put on a great event, despite the deep snow keeping all but a few top riders from completing the course within their hour. Elsewhere in this electronic newsletter you'll find the flyers for the first few events of the year: the Pilgrim Sands Trail Riders' Spring Challenge Hare Scramble (April 6th), NETRA's Youth Camp (April 12/13), the Springfield Motorcycle Club's Steerage Rock Twister Junior Enduro/PeeWee Scramble (April 19), and the Bill Hallson Turkey Run (April 27). Once the NETRA season starts, there's someplace to ride virtually every weekend! It's time to take off the spiked tires, charge the batteries, get some fresh gas, and take those bikes out on the trail. There will be an interesting opportunity at some selected NETRA events this year. Through a partnership with the New England Trials Association (NETA), we will have a trials workshop on the Saturday of some of our two-day events. NETRA riders will have the chance to get trials training, and then be provided a trials bike to ride on a prepared course with trials obstacles. This can really sharpen your bike-handling skills, and for some top riders like Taddy Blasuziak and David Knight is their favorite form of cross-training. We are still working out the details, so stay tuned to the NETRA website for the schedule for these workshops. I would be remiss if I didn't mention some changes on the NETRA Board. This last year Junior Strempfer, Bob Pacheco, John Harriman, and Tim Dinge relinquished their Board seats, and on behalf of the Board thank them for their service to NETRA's membership. The new Board members elected in January are David Bernard, Martha Sherman, and Ed Ventura. I look forward to their contributions and fresh perspective. At January's Board meeting the existing slate of officers was re-elected; myself as President, Jim Sherman as Vice President, Kevin Howley as Treasurer, and Tony Gasper as Secretary. Andy Anthony was reelected as Competition Committee Chairman in December's Comp Committee meeting. It takes a lot of people working together to keep NETRA going; from the NETRA Board, the Competition Committee, the Recreation Committee, the NETRA clubs who host the events, and the individual members. As the 2014 season kicks off, I'm excited about the new year and the great rides we have in store. See you on the trail,
Chris Burton, President
