New Lenox Police Department Offering FREE 20-Hour Basic Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Class To New Lenox Residents The New Lenox Police Department is hosting a 20-Hour Basic CERT Class starting on Thursday September 15, 2016. The Course is FREE to New Lenox residents and will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the New Lenox Police Department. The Final Exercise and Graduation will be held on Saturday October 29, 2016 from 9:00am to 1:00pm. The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and medical operations. The class culminates in a full-scale exercise where students utilize their skills in a simulated disaster environment. Following the class exercise, a luncheon and graduation ceremony is held. Students that successfully complete the course will receive a CERT backpack containing disaster supply kit items valued at approximately $65.00.
