Highfields Primary School Newsletter 3rd July 2015
Dear Parents Year 1 & 2 Harwich Trip Years 1 & 2 enjoyed a fantastic day out by train to Harwich. The children enjoyed spending time exploring the beach environment. Later on in the day they had a chance to play on the green and in the park and enjoyed a well-earned ice-cream! The teachers would like to thank our voluntary helpers on the day; their help was very much appreciated. Thanks also to the PTA who contributed to the trip.
From our Gardens to our Kitchen Our gardening club’s little green fingers have been busily supplying our kitchen with produce for our catering team to use in our school meals. Lettuces and blackcurrants are just a couple of crops that have made it into our delicious school lunches. Choir Summer Concert Last Saturday 26 members of the Choir spent the afternoon rehearsing and the evening performing a concert with 10 Lawford school pupils and the Stour Choral Society. Susie Hyman directed the concert of many parents and families come to enjoy the performance in the chapel at Old Hull East Bergholt. My personal thanks go to the following parents and Fiona Gee who supported me in the supervision of the children. Thanks also go to Mrs Cairns Wood, Mrs Swan, Mrs Foakes, Mrs Chitembwe, Mrs Van Wyk and Mrs Peartree, Mrs Long. This was very much appreciated.
Important Notice - Sports Events/Assemblies/Productions We understand that you may wish to take photographs during these events, but we respectfully remind you to be sensitive to the fact that not all parents/carers are happy for pictures of their children to find their way onto social media and some have requested that their children are not photographed at all. Please ensure that any photos are of your own child and are for purely personal use and do not appear in social media. Our e-safety policy is on the school website. Year 4 Assembly Year 4 shared their favourite pieces of work that they had done during Year 4. They all spoke really well and ended by singing songs which were well received by the large audience of family members. Year 1 Assembly Year 1 performed a summary of all the work they have completed on their animals topic and finished with songs much to the delight of the audience. Band/Choir No more band this term. Last Choir on Monday 6th July finishing at 4pm. We look forward to seeing you at the Summer Evening Concert on Wednesday 8th July. Teddy Bears Picnic Two Teddy Bears Picnics took place last week and two induction mornings for the children starting in September. The Year 5 ‘Special Friends’ did a splendid job in looking after the new children and parents were really pleased with these events. Next week the children will have another opportunity to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings when they come in for a story time session with the Reception teachers. Sponsored Walk The up to date total stands at a fantastic £1850. Please send in any outstanding sponsor sheets and money as early as possible. Missing Lego mini figures A number of lego mini figures (including Cinderella and Merida from Brave) and bricks have been taken from a display outside Mr Day’s classroom. These belong to some of the children in the class and understandably they would like them back. Could you please check at home to see if any pieces have accidentally found their way home. If you do find any could they be returned to school. Attendance Fantastic attendance this week with 2 classes; Mrs Tait’s and Mrs Billings’/Mrs Turner’s achieving 100% attendance. Well done to you all!
