FEDERATION OF HANNAH MORE INFANTS AND GROVE JUNIOR SCHOOLS WHITEOAK WAY, NAILSEA BS48 4YZ Newsletter 9: 12th November 2015 Dear Parents, Term 2 Parent Consultations We are so fortunate to have such fantastic parent support and, once again, attendance at the parent/ teacher consultations has been excellent. I hope you found the evening both useful in supporting your child’s learning and enjoyable too! We look forward to seeing you at the many Christmas events we have later this term. Pudsey Appeal Day Tomorrow, Friday 13th November, pupils are invited to wear “spots” and non-uniform to school in exchange for a donation for the annual BBC Children in Need Appeal. Grove Football Event Our football teams participated with skill and enthusiasm in the tournament last week and we are very proud of their collective achievements. Grove A team qualified for the North Somerset finals later this term. Our girls won all their matches and have also qualified for the finals. The B and C teams competed well in their “friendlies” coming overall 1st and equal 4th place respectively. Well done to everyone! Grove FOGS Disco A big thank you to the FOGS Committee for organising this event. The phenomenal ticket sales speak for themselves! Many thanks also to all the volunteers and staff helping out on the night. A Flock of Shauns! Enthusiasm for Shaun the Sheep continues in our schools. Many thanks to the BartleJenkins family for so generously allowing us to borrow their “Hello Kitty #one kind thing” Shaun. Our pupils are hugely excited to have her in the main entrance! In addition to the gallery in our main reception area we also have super Shaun displays, completed by each Grove class, on display in the hall, please have a look. Year 5 Ancient Greek Museum Year 5 families are warmly invited to view the “museum” this week displaying the pupils’ fantastic “artefacts”. Guide Dog Charity Thanks to your generosity we raised £365 on the last day of Term 1. Many thanks. We look forward to raising further funds on Friday 4th December with a Non Uniform “Touch of Gold” Day. Hannah More Christmas Art Days We would love to have volunteers to help out at our Hannah More Christmas Art Days so if you enjoy glitter and glue please let class teachers know! Please see the calendar of events on the back of the newsletter for the dates. British Legion Poppy Appeal Pupils have been finding out about the symbolism of the poppy and Remembrance Day events this week and observed a time of silence on the 11 th November. At 11.00 a.m. many Year 5 pupils were having swimming lessons at Backwell Pool but took part in the two minute silence, organised by pool staff, standing at the poolside to do so. Mr Thomas tells me that their outstanding attitude was praised by other folk at the pool. In Hannah More we have a beautiful “poppy” picture on display in the hall, thanks to the creativity of Robins Class, as a lasting legacy of the importance of remembering. Nailsea School Orchestra Day Pupils attending the Orchestra Day on Thursday 19th November need to be taken directly to Nailsea School by 9.30 a.m. and will be met there by Grove Staff. Pupils need to be picked up from Nailsea School at 3.00 p.m. Parents are welcome to attend a special performance at 2.00 p.m. Please ensure your child has a packed lunch and water bottle as well as their instrument apart from those pupils who play keyboard or percussion.
