First United Methodist Church First United Methodist Church exists to bring people to Jesus and membership in His church, help them to mature in Christ and grow in grace, and equip them to discover and to use their gifts in ministry in the church and in the world for the glory of God.

The Fiery Sermon – Stay Connected by Dr. John MacArthur A man tells this story about the time his pastor came to his home for a visit. The man was a church member, who had attended services regularly, but for some reason or another, had suddenly stopped going. After a few weeks went by, his pastor decided to visit him. It was a chilly evening, and the pastor found the man at home sitting in front of a blazing fire in the fireplace. The man welcomed the pastor, guessing the reason for his visit, and invited him to sit in a big chair near the fireplace. The pastor made himself comfortable, but said nothing. In silence, he watched the play of the flames around the burning logs. After a few minutes, the pastor reached over, took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone. Still silent, he sat back in his chair. The host watched in confusion, and then fascination as the lone ember's flame diminished. There was a brief glow and then its fire went out. Soon it was cold. Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. Just before the pastor was about to leave, he picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow once more with the light and the warmth of the burning coals around it. As the pastor reached the door, his host said, "Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the fiery sermon. I'll be back in church next Sunday." Matthew 18:20 (New Revised Standard Version) “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” I’ll see you at First United Methodist Church where we are giving God all we’ve got and where we are loving and serving the least, lost, and lonely; the ignored, forgotten, and taken for granted; the bedraggled, beaten down, and burned out; the whosoever, folks like you and me! Love All Around, Mike…

YOUTH MINISTRY Our summer programming is well under way! We have started our new studies: Ephesians: Your Identity in Christ by Tony Merida and The Apostles’ Creed by Matt Chandler. We enjoyed our first Sunday afternoon outing…see Red Bluff pics below; and we have several more outings and events coming up! See calendar below for details. Both youth groups are invited to join us after church this Sunday as we travel to Grand Paradise Water Park in Collins. For those who sign up to go by Wednesday, the cost will be $10, and money for snacks/ drinks through the day will be needed. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy on the way to the park after church . And when we return to the church, we’ll have a church-wide Cobbler and Ice-Cream Fellowship and give everyone a chance to catch up with each other on all their summer adventures and happenings! Kami and Adriane are back from camp, and they had a great time! Please note the before and after pics….and see if you can spot what’s different with Kami. Suffice it to say, if you see Kami hobbling through the church, you might want to get the door for her! She definitely wins the “Camp Trooper” award for breaking her foot and STAYING at camp to finish the week out. Keep her in your prayers as she recovers and likely spends the rest of the summer in a heavy brace! Please pray for our junior high group as they prepare for Centrifuge Camp in July. We’re excited to try out this particular camp and finish up the week with some time on the beach and at “The Hang Out”. Have a great week! Mrs. Angel

New Furniture

The Coffee Room has been gifted with New Furniture and we thank the giver for their contribution for this purpose. We are all called to be good stewards in the use of our New Furniture and held accountable for treating these gifts of furniture with the respect we offer all of God’s property here at First United Methodist Church. Remember, the furniture is made for sitting, so be reminded, no: jumping, hopping, skipping, bouncing, tumbling, trampolining, rough-housing, horseplay! Children help keep your parents under control, and parents expect your children to behave respectfully in God’s House! Thanks again for the New Furniture in the Coffee Room and Happy Sitting!

The Wesley Center Kitchen is currently Closed. We are in the process of renovating the Wesley Center Kitchen so it has been closed until the work is completed. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause but we will reopen as soon as the work is finished. Look for more information to come in upcoming newsletters about the completed work and the BIG reveal!
