Premier Intermediate Football Championship
Minor Hurling Championship
In a dull and dreary night in Ballygarvan Valley Rovers Premier Intermediate footballers got their championship year off to a great start in a tough game against Ballinora. Ballinora registered the first two scores in this contest with Valleys being rather hasty and wasteful in front of the posts. Kevin Canty who came into this game carrying an injury had to retire after 8 minutes but Valley Rovers responded well with Darragh Murphy kicking two super points in the 11th and 12 minutes to tie up the scores. Scores were at a premium in this game and Stephen Manning popped up from wing back to put Valleys in the lead that they never relinquished on 25 minutes. Eoin Manning became the Rovers first and only Valleys forward to score from play on 27th minute to leave the half time score Valley Rovers 0-4 Ballinora 0-2. The second half continued in the same vein, with Eoin Manning stretching the Valleys lead after haftime. Hughie o Donovan on a sub scored a close in free before Ballinora replied with a point breaking their spell of 43 minutes without a score. Hughie responded with an excellent free in the conditions before Balinora completed the scoring on the night with a point on the stroke of full time. To leave the score Valley Rovers 0-7 to Ballinora 0-4. Team:
Valley Rovers premier 1 hurlers played Carrigtwohill in the first round of the hurling championship last Thursday evening in Kilbarry. Carrigtwohill playing with the wind got off to a strong start leading 6 points to no score after 10 minutes. Carrigtwohill were very accurate with their free taking and striking from 40 meters out the field. Eoin O Reilly scored a brilliant individual goal for Valleys running 30 meters with the ball before sticking it to the net. Both teams exchanged points till half time with the score of 12 to 1.3 at the break. Valleys had 11 wide’s in the first half primarily due to the pressure imposed by Carrigtohill through the field. Valleys goalie and full back line Cathal Dart O Flynn, Sean o Regan, Cormac Desmond and Stephen were outstanding in the first half absorbing much of the pressure from the Carrigtwohills long puck out with the wind. Soon after the restart Carrigtwohill scored a goal however with the aid of the wind Valleys kept in touch with points from Chris O Leary, Eoin O Reilly and Colm Butler. In the last ten minutes Darragh Looney scored two goals, one from a penalty and another from a 20 meter free. This left 4 point between the sides. At this point Aron Lyons won an excellent ball on the 30 meter line and ran at the goal only to be denied by an excellent save by the keeper. The final score was 1.22 to 3.11. Carrigtwohill were slightly stronger on the night however Valleys will regret the 18 wide’s. The result does however prove that this minor team is more than capable of competing at the Premier 1 level and Blarney await in the next round. Best for valleys on the night were Darragh Looney, Johnnie Kiely, Eoin O Reilly and the keeper and full back line.Team

Under 14 It’s been a busy time for Valleys U14 Hurlers, on sat 26th we played Shandrum in Brinny, this was an important game to get us back to winning ways with championship coming up on the 10th May. The team played well and were superbly lead by Charlie Lyons, Kieran Rice, M Crowley & M O Leary, we eventually won on a score line of 3-11 to 3-06. Scorers Ch Lyons 2-06, D McCarthy 1-01,C Keogh 0-02, C O Sullivan1-00, K Rice, M O Leary& M Crowley 0-01 On Tues 29th we played a strong Blackrock team in the Bleach, the Rockies started well and opened up a 4 point lead after 15 minutes, (0-05 to 0-01), at this stage both Kieran Rice and Charlie Lyons got to grip at centre back and centre field and Valleys got back in to the game scoring the next 4 points leaving it 5 points each at half time. The team put in a good hard working performance and won on a score line of 0-10 to 0-08. While it was only a 2 point victory we were a little unlucky not to have scored a goal or 2 on the night. On 2nd May we travelled to Na Piarsaigh, who are the 2013 county champions. Na Piarsaigh started the game very well and raced in to a 6 point lead (0-07 to 0-01). After making some positional changes we slowly got back in to the game. A goal from Conor Hurley before half time left 3 between the teams at half time. As we had not played great in the first half, we were lucky to be only 3 down at half time. The second half saw a huge improvement from the team, our work rate and determination to succeed was impressive. Our backs tightened up on their forwards, Charlie thundered in to the game at mid field, Jack Crowley dominated at centre forward and he was ably assisted by Conor Hurley, Conor Keogh, Cathal O Sullivan & Darragh O Shea up front. On 58 minutes Valleys lead 1-10 to 0-10 and Na Piarsaigh scored a goal to equalise. From the puck out Valleys went up the field and created 2 scoring opportunities but unfortunately couldn’t get the winner. This was a good performance from the boys, this level of performance will be needed in our championship game versus Bishopstown. C Hurley (1-01), C Lyons (0-04), J Crowley (0-03), C O Sullivan (0-01), D O Shea (0-01) Panel: Sean Barry, Jack Crowley, Matt Crowley, Ml Connolly, Conor Keogh, Matt Devine, Dave Muckian,

Valleys U13 Valleys U13 footballers played Bishopstown in a challenge game Sunday morning in Bishopstown. Valleys played some strong football in the first half mainly from Gerard O’Mahony and Ronan O’Connell in defence, Darragh Keane at midfield and Cian Crowley in full forward, Valleys led at half time 2-3 to 0-0. Valley’s continued to outplay their opponents and some great defending from Cathal O’Sullivan and Aaron O’Leary in defence, and attacking play from Eoin Nash, Darragh O’Shea and Noel Brady in attack Valleys got on top with some great scores. A Great passing move led to Brian O’Driscoll putting the ball into the back of the net. More attacking play from Valleys saw a great point from Gearoid Sweetnam . Over the hour Valleys team work proved too strong and they ran out winners on a scoreline of 3-4 to 1-1. Under 9 Our U9s have had a busy week with 2 hurling matches. First up was against Nemo Rangers in Brinny last Wednesday evening. It was an ideal evening for hurling and the lads hurled very well. It was very encouraging to see some good point taking and some of the striking on the ground and out of hand was impressive. The lads also played Bishopstown on Sat morning in Bishoptown in damp conditions. They adapted very quickly to the conditions and again took
