Premier Hurling Championship

Junior Hurling Championship

Valley Rovers Premier Intermediate Hurlers recorded a fantastic result on Saturday defeating near neighbours Kilbrittian on a score of 2-17 to 1-07 and reversing last year’s defeat to Kilbrittian. Valleys were inspired by our white helmet brigade and a number of debutants excelling. The first half in this game was an even affair with the teams level 4 times in the first quarter and Kilbrittian finding scoring easier from play. In the 16th minute Kilbrittian struck for a goal, following indecision in the Rovers backline. Kilbrittian added another point and one wondered if the game was going to follow the pattern of the Cloyne game. Thankfully this was not the case as the Rovers added a point and then Kevin Canty stepped up with a goal of real quality. Kevin added another point and the teams traded further points to leave the score level at halftime. No one would have predicted the second half where Valleys outscored their opponents 1-10 to no score. The feature being 5 long range frees from 17 year old Chris O’Leary and minor Eoin O’Reilly and Kevin Canty tormenting the Kilbrittian backline. Valleys are now assured their Premier Intermediate status for 2015 and now look forward to the round 4 draw with some optimism. They will no doubt not get carried away with this result and realise considerable amount of work is to be done to progress in this championship but they are certainly in a better place than they were at 7pm on Saturday. Team:

Valley Rovers got their Junior Hurling Championship back on track with a heartening display against Courcey Rovers in Belgooly on Sunday night. With both teams after been defeated in round one this was last chance saloon for both clubs and the Valleys team composed of a lot of younger players sprinkled with some experienced showed admirable battling qualities. Bill Hawkes free taking on the night was exemplary scoring 8 point of Valleys 0-11 point total from all sorts of ranges and angles. The first half of the game was very even with Courcies pulling 2 points clear at half time on a score of Valley Rovers 0-4 to Courcey Rovers 0-6. The highlight of the first half being a super long range point from play from Centre Back Micheal O’Brien. In a low scoring game 2 points could be considered a big lead but the Juniors displayed great heart in the second half and immediately reduced the lead with Sub Tadgh Burke getting an early score from play and then Bill Hawkes free taking took centre stage. Heroic defending and a never say die attitude ensured Valleys held out to record a 0-11 to 0-09 victory with Johnnie Kiely scoring a point from play with the last puck of the game to cap an excellent 24 hours for Hurling in the Club.

Premier Minor Hurling League Valley Rovers 3-17 to Douglas 3-15 On Tuesday evening June 24th Valley Rovers Minor Hurling team took on Douglas in a league game. This was an important preparatory game for Valleys prior to their next Championship encounter on July 2nd against Blarney. The team came through this game unscathed with no injuries sustained and the team are now looking forward to Championship Hurling. This was a tough hurling encounter with some great scores from range by both sides. However Douglas were missing both their Cork Minors on the night! Eoin O' Reilly got into this game from the start and is on top of his game operating from Centre Forward. Eoin opened the scoring with a well taken point. The hard battle in this game especially in the first half was in the midfield zone and the combination of Darragh Looney and Chris O'Leary kept the balance in Valleys favour. Cormac Desmond had a very solid game from Centre back, behind him Andrew O'Callaghan continues to improve with every outing. The highlight score of this half was a quick through ball from William Hurley to Eoin O'Reilly who found the Douglas net. Scores at halftime had Valleys ahead 6 points on a score of 1-12 to 0-09. In the second half Valleys had to defend their lead as Douglas began to find their rhythm and out score Valleys in this half coming back into the game with 3 goals. However some good defending by Valleys kept Douglas at bay and goals from William Hurley and Chris O'Leary ensured a valuable victory in the league. Scores: Eoin O'Reilly 1-5, Chris O'Leary 1-2, William Hurley 1-1, Darragh Looney 0-4, Aaron Lyons 0-2, Colm Butler 0-2, Bill Casey 0-1.

Cathal Dart O'Flynn, Brian O'Leary, Andrew O'Callaghan, Donal McCarthy, Sean O'Regan, Cormac Desmond, Stephen Lordan, Chris O'Leary, Darragh Looney, Joe Bernard, Eoin O'Reilly, Billy Crowley, Aaron Lyons, William Hurley, Colm Butler. Subs used: Gary Deane, Aiden Sheehan, Bill Casey, Aaron O'Flynn, Shaun Crowley, Scott Deane

Under 16 hurling league V Cloughduv On Monday evening at Brinny Valley Rovers Under 16s played Cloughduv in the hurling league. Cloughduv were quick out of the blocks and went into a four point lead but two pointed frees and a great goal from Robert Sean Sweetman brought valleys back into the game . From there to half time both teams traded points and Cloughduv went in with a two point lead 17 to 1-5 . When the game resumed Cloughduv hit a purple patch and went 11 points ahead but to their credit and driven on by a great performance by William Hurley at centre back and Adam Settini in midfield narrowed it to five points but ran out of time. This was always going to be a difficult ask for valleys as it was their first game in over two months because of the junior cert. There were a number of players away at the Gaeltacht and on holidays and five of the under 14s played and to their credit performed very well. Panel on the night - Kieran Rice, Mark O'Leary, Sean Lynch, Shane Lynch, Cian O’Donovan, William Hurley, Sean O'Donovan, Fearghal Lyons , Adam Settini, Jonathan Hurley, Patrick Hurley , Peter Callanan , Aaron Murphy, Robert Sean Sweetman , Conor Keogh & Ronan Hoey. A speedy recovery to Conor Keogh who picked up a nasty injury on the night.

Valleys U13

Valleys U12

Valleys U13 footballers travelled to the glen on Sunday morning tp play St Nicks in a Premier 2 football league game. St Nicks started brightly and were up 5-1 to 1-2 at half time. Only for a number of top class saves from goal keeper Darragh Keane the score line would have been worse. Valleys fought back bravely in the second half and spurned at least five or six excellent goal chances unfortunately lost on a score line of 6-6 to 2-7. This was a great second half display but not taking the goal chances cost us the game. Best for valleys were Daragh Keane, Ross Higgins and U12 player Eoin O’Sullivan who finished with 1-3 and gave a very impressive display on Sunday. The overall improvement of the team in progressing very well as everyone get half a game every day which will stand to all players when they have championship at U14 next year. Team:
