To participate in GGC Intramural Sports, you must be a current student in good academic standing. Any team found playing with ineligible participants will forfeit the games in which ineligible participants played. Teams playing with ineligible participants may also be dropped from the league at the discretion of the Coordinator of Recreation. Each player must meet the following conditions to sign-in: 1. Present a valid GGC Claw Card before EACH contest to be eligible to participate OR 2. Have a registered profile on IMLeagues.com/GGC and be part of the team’s roster. Even if a participant is already registered with IMLeagues, he or she must still present a valid GGC Claw Card.
NO EXCEPTIONS! Intramural Sports 3-on-3 Basketball Rules will govern play with the following modifications: I. Team Requirements: 1.1 A coin toss will determine which team will put the ball in play to start the contest. The rest of the game will use alternating possession. 1.2 All players must wear non-marking rubber-soled athletic shoes 1.3 Jewelry may not be worn. No hats or bandanas may be worn. 1.4 Teams may wear their own jerseys provided the numbers on the jersey use only the digits 0, 1, 2, 3, or 5 and the jerseys all match in color. If the jerseys do not meet these requirements, participants will be required to wear pennies provided by the recreation staff. 1.5 Forfeits & Defaults 1.5.1 Teams must have at least 3 players signed in and ready to play to start the game. If a team does not have the necessary number of players to start the game at 5 minutes after the scheduled game time, the game will be called. 1.5.2 Default – A default occurs when a team does not have enough players to begin a game but has players present at the fields and sign in OR the team has notified Intramural Staff ahead of time that the team would be unable to field enough players for the game. Teams with 2 defaults in a season are not eligible for playoffs. 1.5.3 Forfeit – A forfeit occurs when a team does not have any players present at the fields and the team does not notify Intramural Staff ahead of time that the team will not be present. A forfeit automatically disqualifies a team from the playoffs. II. Game Rules: 2.1 A coin toss will determine which team will put the ball in play to start the contest. The rest of the game will use alternating possession. 2.2 Matches will consist of the best two out of three games. Games shall be won by the team which has earned 21 points and a two point advantage. If the score is tied 20-20 then the first team to 25 will win the game. 2.3 All games will have a running clock of 15 minutes. The clock will only stop during the last 30 seconds on whistles and made baskets. If neither team has reached 21 points after 15 minutes, the team with the most points will be the winner. 2.4 Each team will be granted one 30 second timeout for each game. 2.5 Substitutions may be made at any time during a dead ball. Substitutions may be made after a made basket. 2.6 Three second violations will remain in effect. 2.7 The game will be played on half of a full basketball court. The half court line and normal boundary lines are out-ofbounds.
III. Scoring 3.1 All field goals inside the 3-point line will count for 2 points. All field goals from beyond the 3-point line will count as 3 points. IV. Clearing the Ball 4.1 Teams will alternate possession on made baskets. After made baskets, the ball must be passed in. The player inbounding the ball may dribble but not shoot until the ball is passed. If the inbounding player shoots the ball before passing, the play will be blown dead and result in a turnover. 4.2 The defensive player must give the offensive player that checked the ball in at least 3 feet to pass the ball to a teammate 4.3 On all possession changes, the ball must be taken back by having both feet and the ball behind the top of the 3-point line. This must be done on any change of possession regardless of whether or not the ball was stolen or a shot was missed. If a team does not take the ball back properly then the play is dead at the first shot attempt by the violating team. The result of the play will be a turnover. V. Fouls rd
5.1 Players foul out on their 3 foul per contest. The players may re-enter during the next game played. 5.2 All fouls are common fouls. 5.2.1 For the first 4 fouls, the ball will be cleared and put back in play by the fouled team. This rule applies for both shooting and non-shooting fouls. th 5.2.2 Beginning with the 5 team foul: A. The fouled player will be awarded 2 free throws for all shots inside the 3-point line and 3 free throws for all shows beyond the 3-point line. 2 free throws will be awarded for all non-shooting fouls. After the free throw(s) the ball will belong to the non-shooting team regardless of whether the free throw(s) was made or not. B. If during the foul the shot is made, the basket will be awarded as well as 1 subsequent free throw. The non-shooting team will be next to put the ball in play. th 5.2.3 Beginning with the 7 team foul: A. The fouled player will be awarded 2 free throws for all shots inside the 3-point line and 3 free throws for all shots beyond the 3-point line. 2 free throws will be awarded for non-shooting fouls. After the free throw(s) the ball will remain with the shooting team regardless if the free throw(s) was made or not. B. If during the foul the shot is made, the basket will be awarded as well as 1 subsequent free throw. The shooting team will be the next to put the ball in play. 5.3 If a technical foul/intentional foul/flagrant foul is called, the non-fouling team will receive 2 points and be awarded the ball. Two technical fouls on any one player will result in that player being ejected. 5.4 Fighting will result in disqualification and teams will be removed from the league. Note: Any player ejected from an Intramural competition must meet with the Coordinator of Recreation to determine future eligibility. VI. Sportsmanship 6.1 Each team will be given a sportsmanship rating at the end of each game. The sportsmanship rating will operate on a 0-4 point scale. Playoff eligibility will be determined by the average sportsmanship rating throughout the regular season. Any team with an average sportsmanship rating lower than 3.0 will not be allowed to participate in the playoffs. 6.1.1 Description of Sportsmanship Ratings: A. Excellent Sportsmanship (4 points) – Players cooperate fully with the officials about rule interpretations and calls. The captain also has full control of his/her teammates. Team members and spectators were respectful of opponents and officials and encouraged each other’s efforts. At no time was this team disrespectful towards participants or officials. B. Acceptable Sportsmanship (3 points) – Team members and spectators are respectful of opponents and officials except for one or two minor incidents which may or may not merit a warning from the game officials or supervisor.
C. Sportsmanship Needs Improvement (2 points) – Team members or spectators are disrespectful of opponents or officials on a number of occasions which may or may not warrant a penalty. Captain exhibits minor control over his/herself and his/her teammates and spectators. Teams receiving multiple warning or having a player ejected for an unsportsmanlike act should receive no higher than a C rating. D. Unacceptable Sportsmanship (1 point) – Team constantly comments to the officials and/or opposing teams from the field and/or sidelines. The team captain exhibits little or no control over teammates or himself/herself. Majority of individuals on this team are disrespectful of opponents or officials on a regular basis. Teams receiving multiple D ratings within one season may be subject to dismissal. F. Season Ending Rating (0 points) – Team is completely uncooperative and out of control before, during, or after intramural sports contest(s). Team captain exhibits poor control over self, the team, and/or the spectators. Team has multiple ejections or blatant unsportsmanlike conduct that endangered participants, fans, officials, or supervisors. Team fails to cooperate/comply with intramural sports administrative staff/College officials while performing their duties; falsely represents or withholds any requested information. Teams which receive an F rating will be immediately dismissed from the league.
