FOOD PANTRY BLESSINGS We want to thank you for the food donations that were given for our friends for Thanksgiving. Once again Alva UMC proved that we are the “little church with the big heart”. Also, thanks to all who volunteered their time this past week. Last week we had our annual inspection from Harry Chapin…it went very well! CAMPAIGN OF FAITH We are asking you to join together in love, joy, and faith to help the church become DEBT FREE! With God’s help and yours, we are striving to wipe out our loan balance of $106,892.59. Pray about it and ask God what you can do to help. OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving from the office staff!

From the Pastor’s Heart

As you ready your heart for our morning worship, please read 2 Corinthians 9:6-15. Many people are familiar with the little verse from this lesson: “God loves a cheerful giver”. (vs.7b) You’ve heard me say “God loves a cheerful giver…but he also receives from grumps”. Which category do you best fit into this morning? Today we are going to discover why the cheerful giver is cheerful. The answer is in our text today. #1. When you give you receive. This makes the giver cheerful. One of the truths in life is that whatever we sow is what we also reap. Paul tells us, “He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will reap bountifully”. If you give a little, you get a little. If you give a lot, you get back a lot. This makes the giver, cheerful. #2: God is a generous and giving God. Paul writes: “…for God loves a cheerful giver and God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work”. (vss. 7-8) Cheerful givers are cheerful because they are reflecting the character of God. God is a cheerful giver. We should want to be cheerful givers. #3. Cheerful givers are cheerful because God has made them a promise. Look at St. Paul’s words: “He who supplies

seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God…” (vss. 10-11) You will be enriched in every way! That’s God’s promise! God supplies the need, multiplies it, to enrich you in every way.

Why are cheerful givers cheerful? They understand about sowing seeds. They understand about the promises of God. They trust and they give and they wait expectantly for their return. In all of this, don’t we see just how good our God is to His children?!
