INVITATION- BARRHEAD DINNER & AUCTION

th

Barrhead Canadian Reformed Church is inviting you to a Dinner and Auction fundraiser this coming Friday, November 20 at the Barrhead Elementary School Gym(5103 - 53 Ave). Doors will open @5:30pm; it will be a casual event as you can browse the auction items at this time. There will be a silent auction from 5:30pm till 7:00pm and a live auction starting @ 7:30pm. The Menu is Chili and a bun, hotdogs, Chili dogs and a variety of desserts. Everyone 16+ is welcome; tickets for the dinner will be sold at the door. We are very thankful for the huge support we have received for the auction; all money raised will go to kitchen equipment for our new church building.

FURNITURE NEEDED We have the opportunity to be moving into the manse in Neerlandia and are in need of some furniture as there currently is none and we are not keen to eat off the floor! We are wondering if there is anyone who has some furniture they might be willing to sell or donate to the homeless teacher fund. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Marieke (780-305-9817) or Miranda (1-780-218-5319).

BARRHEAD NEWS TO AND FROM THE CONGREGATION We welcome into our midst two new members who come to us from the only Canadian Reformed church to the north of us (Neerlandia): sr. Nancy Sandink and sr. Rachelle Rutledge. We trust that you will both settle quickly and seamlessly into our midst and discover and utilize opportunities to become involved in strengthening the fellowship in the communion of saints, and we pray that we likewise may be hands and feet to you. We give thanks that br. Bert Bultena may celebrate another birthday this week on November 17. Though our brother continues to experience the frailties of life, it is our prayer that the Lord will continue to provide for him and his loved ones, especially his dear wife Klaske, and surround them all with His love and care in the coming year. We also note that November 19 will mark the five-year anniversary since the automobile accident that changed the life of sr. Stephanie Wierenga. We thank God for sparing your life on that day and preserving you through these past five years. It is wonderful to see you able to walk in and out of the new church building, no longer having to navigate around stairs, nor requiring

the use of a wheelchair or its accompanying assistants. Together with you we praise the Lord for his work in your life, bringing you to this level of independence. May the Lord continue to give you what you need for the future. As I promised, allow me to provide some further reflection on the ministers’ conference I was able to attend from November 3-5. Besides having plenty of time for prayer, fellowship and refreshment, we were blessed to listen to our main speaker, Dr. Mark Beach of Mid-America Reformed Seminary, who challenged us to reflect on how we as churches practice evangelism and to assess how well we are following the biblical vision of the task. He impressed upon us the need to give more attention to this area, so that under the invested leadership of office-bearers our churches would develop a greater focus and concentration on communicating the gospel clearly in this world in word and deed. He challenged the excuses and evasions that we easily offer when resisting to engage ourselves in the task of evangelism. We were encouraged to engage in “friendship evangelism” and not “stranger evangelism” and to be motivated by Christ-like love and sensitivity for the lost. A big emphasis was placed on prayer for our unbelieving neighbours, both privately and publically, as often as possible praying for them by name. Also, we were encouraged as preachers as to how we can improve our preaching and leading worship services so that “unchurched” people can comprehend what is being said and follow along and relate, so that they will see the relevance and importance of the message for them also. Much encouragement was offered, and challenges abound for all of us. May God bless all our efforts to spread the truth of the good news we’ve been given! nd Regional Synod West came and went on November 2 . The delegates entertained a lengthy discussion concerning a proposal (overture) which seeks to strengthen the relationship between theological students at the seminary with their “home” church (linked to their place of origin before taking up their studies). The two-fold proposal received the consent of Regional Synod to be forwarded to General Synod Dunnville 2016 for further deliberation. You can read more about this proposal in the Press Release of Regional Synod West found at canrc.org. This morning, I plan to begin preaching a series of sermons on the meaning and significance of the OT tabernacle, the Lord’s first designated earthly place of worship for his people. May the Spirit cause the preached Word to reach into our hearts so that we may be reinvigorated and empowered to living out our faith in the coming week! Have a blessed Lord’s day! CVL

NEERLANDIA NEWS FOR AND FROM THE FLOCK We are in the middle of November and we see the signs of hibernation kicking in. The ducks and geese are on their way out. It is so amazing to see how they are created to know just when it is time to go. Also, November brings out the eagerness to put meat on the table for the winter and so hunting season goes into full speed ahead. It is also a time for those who love the outdoors to enjoy God’s beautiful creation in a winter setting. Things have been quiet in the congregation this past week. Br. Tyler and Ashley Vanleeuwen have been blessed with a baby boy this past Sunday. They named him Bo Daniel. All is well with mother and child. We are thankful that Tyler and Ashley have requested to have Catechism instruction. We hope and pray that in due time their children may receive the sign and seal of the covenant. th, This coming Wednesday, November 18 we will have a presentation organized by the deacons to have Word and Deed speak on the plight of those less fortunate. It is hard for us to imagine that people in the world live in such poor conditions and who are content if they can have a meal a day. To think that the money to buy a cup of coffee would feed a family! We should encourage each other to come to this presentation and support the work that is being done. Bring your group and claim a table. In another part of the bulletin you can find more information. Let us willingly share from what the Lord has given us. You can also see in another part of the bulletin that council is calling a congregational meeting on Friday, December 4, 2015, to deal with the church growth. We can be thankful that the Lord has blessed the growth in Neerlandia to such an extent that we need to find a way to address this matter. Let all members make sure we keep this evening open so that we can be informed on the proposal of council. We are thankful that Rev. Kalkman was willing to lead the worship services today. Br. Gerard Veurink, who has just passed his preparatory exam and is eligible for call, will be leading the worship services next week. May we have a blessed Sunday. AV
