I want to thank everyone that celebrated with our church at the Reformation Celebration and recognized the 15th anniversary of my ordination. I am thankful God has called me to serve and I’m glad you’ve let me stick around Hope! It has me reflecting, so take a moment with me down memory lane… •

I was called as the associate pastor to Faith Viera Lutheran in 2002. I served there full time until 2005 when I started Hope! I served part time at Faith and Hope until 2010. In 2002 I also put in my request to go from a chaplain candidate to a reserve chaplain. I had attended basic course in 2000. So, throw in two years I didn’t serve (2007 & 2008) and I have 15 years in the military chaplaincy too! When I started ministry, I had a 1 year old and a 3 year old. Crazy. Out of the seminary, I was actually called to serve a church in Texas! The call fell through and I ended up in Florida. My brother Mike preached the sermon at my ordination. Cool! I served as a vacancy pastor at Risen Savior in Palm Bay from October 2003April 2004. Out of my seminary classmates, only 5 out of 70 have stayed at their original call (roughly). I’ve technically had two calls, but have stayed in the same area. Pop culture in 2002? Kelly Clarkson won the first ever American Idol. The Department of Homeland security was created. Popular movies included Spiderman, The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
It is amazing to think about all that has happened in the past 15 years. While I am thankful for that, I am excited to see what the NEXT 15 years bring for us together. Ministry in the name of the Lord! A property? Likely! Additional staff? Likely! More Cubs World series titles? Certainly! Celebrating 15 years can sound like bragging. That isn’t my intent! The truth of the matter is, that serving in ministry is about the wonderful people that have touched my life and made the church alive in Christ! I would have never made it this far without the Lord. I would have never made it this far without Raquel and my entire family supporting and loving me. I would have never made it this far without each of you giving encouragement and holding accountability. In Christ, Pastor Moreno So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 1 Peter 5:1-3

Hope Reporter Food on the First For November, the Genesis Food Pantry is collecting food items for Thanksgiving dinner such as green beans, boxed mashed potatoes, gravy, and Jiffy corn bread. They always welcome any food or cash donations. Thank you for your continued generosity!
Thanksgiving Baskets It's time to start thinking ahead to the holidays! In November, we will be collecting items for Thanksgiving Baskets/Bags for the Brevard Sharing Center. There is a signup sheet in the narthex for you to indicate how you can help in this project. Items/Baskets are due at Hope by November 15, and shopping lists are available for your convenience. On Wednesday November 15, there will be a bag packing activity from 5:30pm to 6:00pm; all who can come a few minutes early to Wednesday in the Word are welcome to help! Thrivent will provide the canned ham.
Hygiene Drive We’ve all seen on the news the devastation in Puerto Rico, the Florida Keys, and other hurricane-afflicted regions. As conditions worsen, many families are forced to flee their homes and relocate to safer areas. Brevard Public Schools has already received over 120 (was 80 last week) student refugees as a result of this exodus. The Brevard Schools Foundation Supply Zone is planning to provide backpacks filled with school supplies and other necessities directly to these students the first week of December. Hope is partnering with this effort by collecting hygiene products for these children. By collecting items such as dental products, deodorant, soap, or shampoo, you can help improve their health, confidence, and overall wellbeing. The Supply Zone is also requesting underwear and socks of all sizes. Please bring items to Hope by Sunday, November 26 to be distributed in December.
CITA Dinner On Thursday, November 16, Hope will be providing dinner for the clients of CITA (Christ Is The Answer.). Thrivent funds will be used to buy supplies and Beth Hazley will prepare the meal. We will have a sign up sheet for volunteers to assist with serving that meal. Those who wish to participate can sign up and we need to be at the CITA kitchen by 4:45pm. Any questions can be addressed to Dave Roberts. Thank you!
Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Assembly It’s that time of year again! The LWML societies of Hope and Risen Savior will be assembling shoeboxes on Saturday, November 18 at Risen Savior. Grab the list in the narthex of “Wow” items and/or Toys needed for girls and return by November 12. With the help of Thrivent, hygiene, school, and other items will be purchased. The LWML goal is to complete 20 boy (Risen Savior) and 20 girl (Hope) boxes. Contact Dorothee Jones or Phyllis Derda for more information.
