November is the time we have set aside for giving thanks. Each year on the fourth Thursday

of November we pause to express our thanks to God for our great country and for the many blessings we have in our lives. But for the Christ follower, giving thanks should not be limited to just the month of November. Paul wrote, “16 Rejoice always, 17pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV). Our lives ought to demonstrate a constant attitude of joy and thankfulness to the One who rescued us, who brought us from darkness into the light, who brought us from death to life. This is God’s will for us! I don’t know about you, but I often fall short of this standard. I’m thankful that, in Jesus, God forgives my shortcomings. I pray that He will help us become more thankful on a daily basis in the coming year ahead. The psalmist wrote, “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds” (Psalm 9:1, ESV). In that vein, I want to say how grateful I am to be a part of the Gulf Coast Baptist Association. It is truly a great blessing to serve the Lord alongside the great churches in GCBA. People are getting saved on a weekly basis. Churches are serving their communities. We have new churches being planted, and more in the process of being planted. Unhealthy churches are getting healthy, and dying churches are being revitalized. The gospel is being declared by GCBA churches all across Texas, in our prisons, in Seattle, Alaska, Kenya, Nepal, Cambodia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Belize, and more places that I’m sure I haven’t even heard about! My heart overflows when I think of all that you and your churches are giving and doing for the sake of the Kingdom of God. Yes, there are challenges and obstacles. Sure, we miss the target at times. But God is working through you to accomplish His good and perfect will. Let us not forget to thank Him and to share the stories of what He is doing in and through us. Keep loving each other and cooperating together for the Gospel. We truly are better together than we ever could be alone. I pray that you will enjoy Thanksgiving with your family. Be sure to take the time to thank Him and to tell everyone about His great deeds. Let’s make much of Jesus together. Blessings! Chuck…
