TO PRESERVE SOUTHEAST ASIA AS A NUCLEAR WEAPON-FREE ZONE AND FREE OF ALL OTHER WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION (ARTICLE 1 PARAGRAPH 3)

ASEAN VISION 2020 Envision a Southeast Asia free from nuclear weapons, with all the Nuclear Weapon States committed to the purposes of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapons Free Zone Treaty through their adherence to its Protocol. Envision SEA free from all other weapons of mass destruction.

•Ensure implementation of SEANWFZ Treaty and its Plan of Action •Support the establishment of regional nuclear weapon-free zones •Develop coordinated ASEAN approach to improve nuclear safety, in cooperation with the IAEA and other relevant partners •Promote disarmament and nonproliferation while enhancing ASEAN capacity to address deliberate/accidental release of hazardous substances/agents of WMD

ASEANATOM Term of Reference was signed in 2013 Key point of contact with the IAEA to promote collaboration among nuclear regulatory bodies and relevant authorities in ASEAN Member States. ­Sharing best practices and experiences ­Assisting implementing relevant commitments to the IAEA ­Regional cooperation in nuclear emergency preparedness and response, environmental radiation monitoring, and nuclear security, etc.
