Grading: You earn your grades, so, please, do not ask for a change of grade unless an obvious calculation error has occurred. Exams: Tests will be taken on Scantron which will be provided for you. No graphing calculators, cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players, or other electronic devices, as well as head- or earphones are allowed to be out during exams. If you are found to have a phone or other electronic device anywhere out (meaning, anywhere else except your backpack/book bag/purse) during an exam you will receive a grade of 0 for that exam. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Dates of exams are listed in this syllabus. If it becomes necessary to change the date of an exam you will be given adequate notice of this date change by an announcement of the change during class and via email. Attendence: As stated in Student Rules # 7 on attendance (http://student-rules.tamu.edu/rule07), “The University views class attendance as an individual student responsibility. Students are expected to attend class and to complete all assignments.” Attendance is not part of your final grade; however, you will be responsible for any information you may have missed on days you are absent, even if the absence is excused. You will also not be allowed to make-up any missed pop quizzes. Make-up for Exam: Make up exams will be given only in the event of a University authorized absence. If it becomes necessary to miss an exam you will need to arrange an alternate date with me to make up that exam. Proper documentation within the described time frame (per section 7.3 of Rule 7) of the absence is required for all make-up exams. I require a copy of your note signed by your doctor or other health professional confirming your illness and inability to attend class the day of the exam. I will not accept the “Explanatory Statement for Absence from Class” form that is available from the A&M website unless is it signed by a physician. Proof of other University Authorized absences will be required. University sponsored and authorized activities are posted at http://studentactivities.tamu.edu/online/sponsauth. Make-up exams cover the same topics and learning objectives as those covered on the respective original exam; however, it will be in a different format, including fill-in the blank, multiple choice, and/or short answer questions. Make-up exams must be completed prior to the subsequent exam. Viewing previous exams: Exams will not be returned to you. However, you will have the opportunity to view the key to the exam with your TA or you may view your exam with your scantron with me. You will not be allowed to copy, photograph, or scan your exam. You can view the key or your scantron only until the date of the next exam. For example, you will be allowed to view your exam and scantron for Exam 1 until the date for Exam 2. Following Exam 2, you will not be able to view your Exam 1 information. Pop Quizzes: Pop quizzes will be given in class throughout the semester and taken using i>clicker. As the name indicates, these are unannounced quizzes and are an excellent tool for both you and me. Points towards your final grade will include points received from these quizzes. Please note: there will be no make-up for a pop quiz should you miss one. The grade distribution is based on 5 pop quizzes; however, you will have more than 5 chances to take these 5 pop quizzes throughout the semester. Your pop quiz grade will be posted soon after the quiz takes place in class. You are responsible for letting me know if your pop quiz grade is not found on eCampus within 2 weeks following the pop quiz. Please see the information below in the section on eCampus. Diet Analysis Project: You have one major assignment in this class, the diet analysis project. You are responsible for completing and submitting this project on time. Any project turned in beyond the due date will be deducted 10 points for each day beyond the due date it is turned in or completed. In the event an illness or other University authorized excuse prevents you from completing this assignment by the due date,

appropriate documentation (see Make-up for Exam section) must be submitted; however, this assignment must be submitted on the day following the end of your excused absence. Instructor communication: Announcements, lecture notes, and grades will be posted on eCampus, found at ecampus.tamu.edu. You are responsible for monitoring eCampus and your email for announcements that may affect the class schedule, lecture notes, change of exam date or anything else related to this class. Furthermore, your grades will be posted on eCampus. It is your responsibility to monitor your grades throughout the semester. You should contact either me or your TA regarding the absence of a pop quiz that you have taken or missing exam grade on eCampus. Academic Integrity: “An Aggie does not lie, cheat or steal, or tolerate those who do.” Please refer to http://www.tamu.edu/home/academics/ for information on TAMU policies on Academic Integrity. You should specifically review Student Rule 20: Academic Misconduct. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Policy Statement: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal anti-discrimination statute that provides comprehensive civil rights protection for persons with disabilities. Among other things, this legislation requires that all students with disabilities be guaranteed a learning environment that provides for reasonable accommodation of their disabilities. If you believe you have a disability requiring an accommodation, please contact Disability Services, in Cain Hall, Room B118, or call 8451637. For additional information visit http://disability.tamu.edu. Classroom Etiquette: Behavior is to be appropriate at all times. Appropriate behavior means being respectful of your fellow students and avoiding disruptions in their learning experience. Cell phones and pagers must be turned to “silent” or “vibrate” mode. Talking on the cell phone is not permitted during the class period; you may leave the classroom if you must discuss an issue over the phone. If you must have a conversation with your neighbor during class please do so at a soft whisper so that you do not disturb those sitting around you. If you are talking loud enough to be disruptive, you will be asked to leave. You may bring your laptop to class to take notes; please mute the volume of your laptop to avoid unintentional disruptions during the lecture time. If you violate these policies, you will be asked to leave and will not be permitted to make-up work missed, including pop quizzes. Tips for Success in Nutrition 202: 1. Copies of lecture outlines will be provided via eCampus. It is recommended that you print a copy of these lecture outlines and review the outline PRIOR to class. Some information will not be included in the lecture notes that will be discussed during class lecture. If you miss class, it is recommended that you meet with another student and use your textbook to complete the lecture notes. 2. Read chapter assignments in the textbook prior to or immediately following the corresponding class. 3. Pay attention to and study diagrams or tables from the textbook that are focused on during class lectures. 4. Attend class, pay attention, ask questions, and participate in class discussion and activities. 5. Study in advance of each exam. 6. The final exam is cumulative. You are strongly encouraged to review your regular exam results after each exam to make notes to help you prepare for the final. 7. If your grade is lower than you would like or you are struggling please seek help earlier rather than later from either me or your TA. Do not wait until the end of the semester to meet with me for study hints. 8. Periodically, announcements related to the coursework or class will be posted on eCampus. You are responsible for checking for new announcements and reading the content of those announcements.

9. Bring your i>clicker to all class periods. i>clickers will be used for pop quizzes, as well as class surveys and non-graded quizzes. It is recommended that you keep extra batteries for your i>clicker with you at all times.
