CPD STRAND 1 – TEACHING AND LEARNING HEG briefed governors following a meeting with governors BB and ZJ assigned to this strand. The focus of the briefing was Work Related Learning (WRL). HEG explained that although procedures and opportunities for WRL are embedded for years 9, 10, and 11, there had not been much in place for years 7 and 8. It is important to give aspirations to pupil premium students in particular from the earliest opportunity. Sue Bird had completed an evaluation and won a free 'Future First' event for the school. Alumini had come in to engage with pupil premium students from yrs 7 and 8 which had proved very successful. Lloyds bank had contacted HEG and offered a 'Project Your Own Opportunities' (PYOO) which is a 6 week programme. Students were told about this in assembly, and subsequently nominated participants for this programme. Staff ensured there was a balanced group of participants. HEG also won a prize following an evaluation completion, which is an enterprise day to which the £10 challenge students, who are mostly year 7, will attend. Governors attention was drawn to the Ofsted criteria for assessing WRL standards as good or outstanding. Presently Oathall fully meet good criteria, with some elements of outstanding. HEG Governors enquired whether the final career path of students was ever looked at. ERZ and HEG said that this was difficult to achieve but information does come forward from some HE establishments. HEG commended Sue Bird for her efforts in securing WRL opportunities. RC thanked HEG.

MA asked if staff are up to date with training, to which ERZ said he would look into it. MT, in his capacity as a police officer, offered to assist. The policy was ratified. Medicines in school SS picked up that the term, ‘mild asthma’, was not appropriate as asthma is always a serious condition. This term was removed. The policy was ratified. Scheme of delegation ratified and approved by the budget working party. Governors had sight of, and discussed, the Best value statement and the Statement of internal controls. The action plan was approved.
