When I think about faith, it is a word that is often used loosely in our conversation. Expressions like “have a little faith”, “have some faith in me”, or “I have faith that he/she will come through” are often used by us. What about when it comes to God? Do our actions and words match our faith? In our journey, are we trying to possibly use our status or accomplishments to obtain our right standing before God? What is our end goal? These are great questions for all of us as we pursue God. Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, addressed these very questions. There were those (Judaizers) who were influencing the Philippians, carrying their religious expectations into what it meant to be a Christian, in such a way that was contrary to the teachings of Jesus. What the establishment was requiring seemed to be right in their own eyes. Paul, in his faith journey, took a stand to correct these falsities by using himself as an example. His faith was in Christ alone and he knew the end goal and the prize that was awaiting Him. I am encouraged as we journey with Paul into our own faith expedition. I look forward to sharing our faith together this Sunday as we explore our “Faith in…Christ” as we dissect what we may be putting our faith in, our gains vs. the ultimate gain, and the goal of everything in life. May we all be emboldened, focused, and excited as we move forward as the body of Christ as Westview! (Philippians 3:4b-14) Yours In Christ, Rick

Day 1~ In 520 B.C., God used Zechariah the prophet to deliver an all important message to His people. Devastation was still the theme of the day. The nation and its infrastructure, along with Jerusalem and the temple, were all, for 500 Melody Lane the most part, still in ruins, suffering from repeated interruptions and pillaging that had taken place following Cyrus’ death in 630 B.C. Adding to the despair was a lack of oneness and disunity that emerged between the exiled Jews Shelby, NC 28152 who arrived back in Jerusalem and the Jews who were living in Jerusalem and the surrounding areas (see Ezra 4:1(704) 487-1213 5).Office: Despite these troubles, God’s primary “word” (dabar in Hebrew) for His people through Zechariah was not just focused on the rebuilding of Jerusalem, its walls or even the temple. Rather, it went to the heart of the problem and was a message that spoke to the desperate need for a renewed and vital spiritual life among God’s people. The phrase, “the word of the Lord” (dabar Yahweh) is a phrase that represented a divinely inspired revelation that is delivered through God’s prophet. It occurs some 242 times throughout the Old Testament. It is always timely, to the point and speaks to the heart of the matter at hand. God’s prophet Zechariah was an available and obedient instrument who was faithful to deliver the truth of God to the people. What was at the heart of His message? The need to refocus their hearts on the Lord, repent of their sins and return to the Lord in relationship. Hope for the future abounds when repentance becomes a reality in His follower’s lives (see Zech.1:3, 6). This was a pivotal time for God’s people. It was also a time when the Lord, through His messenger, was bringing His people to a point of decision. They could obey God’s message and return to Him in a restored relationship, allowing God’s work of rebuilding, restoration, blessing and favor to move forward. Or, like their forefathers (see Zech. 1:2, 4-6), they could suffer God’s judgment and devastation as an unrepentant and rebellious people. Today, the American church is at a crossroads. No doubt, it faces many social, economic, cultural, political and moral challenges that seem to be getting more chaotic and even worse each day. Yet, nothing is more pressing than the spiritual famine that is ever-increasing throughout the church and culture. Lostness is rapidly increasing while the church’s gospel impact is minimal. What shall we do? Who will deliver a word from God? Who will listen? Who will seek the Lord and give attention to the need for a spiritual solution to a spiritually sick church and nation? Will it start with you? Go to Prayfor30Days.org to download the entire prayer guide or sign up to have them emailed to you daily!

Honduras Missions Christmas Project As we shared with you in July, we have an opportunity to fill Christmas bags for Honduras children this year. Ziploc Bags will be furnished by the Keeters and marked with the appropriate age level and gender. This project will begin immediately and end no later than October 29. Completed Christmas bags will then be shipped to Honduras; you need to include in each bag a $5.00 shipping cost. We cannot deviate from these items so that each child receives the same items. We will order a case of Spanish Bibles (one to be placed in each bag as specified) for inclusion in the bags. This project will be all-inclusive for the approximately 12 mission churches where the Keeters minister. There will be sign-up sheets in the Vestibule and Fellowship Hall to indicate how many bags you will fill and for what age level and gender. Contact Jessica Lance, Crystal Haney or Myles Whitaker if you have questions. GIRLS 2-4 Baby doll Coloring book Crayons Candy (no chocolate) Underwear Socks Toothbrush/toothpaste Stuffed animal
