[email protected] Moorhead Babe Ruth Baseball Committee Hello Moorhead Babe Ruth Baseball members, parents and players! This is Greg Salvevold, the head baseball coach for the Moorhead Spuds. I hope everyone is starting to get that baseball fever as the warmer weather approaches. I’m excited for the season ahead and can’t wait to hit the field! I am also pleased to announce the newly created Moorhead Babe Ruth Baseball Committee. Starting in the fall of 2016, several of the high school and legion coaches, along with a few board members and interested baseball parents, began discussing how Moorhead Babe Ruth can deliver an improved experience for all players, and a more consistent and aligned approach for coaches at every level. The purpose of the Baseball Committee will be to design, review and help implement desired Moorhead baseball philosophies and practices, and continually discuss future baseball related ideas for the advancement of the Moorhead Babe Ruth Baseball Program and Moorhead Baseball as a whole. This includes player development specific to each level and consistent with Moorhead High School and Legion baseball. And we have already begun building practice plans for coaches at every level and assigned Lead Coaches to each age group to ensure proper teaching of skills and fundamentals. Below are a few areas the committee would like to focus on this year: Player Development Character building Skill development Help out with tryouts and evaluations Off-season programming (baseball clinics/camps) Provide lead coaches at every level to assist in the development of all players and coaches Spud Buddy Program to get all high school and legion players involved with our youth in a variety of ways Coaching Development Educate and align to Moorhead Baseball philosophy Practice plans to ensure alignment and consistency Coaches clinics and training - If you are planning on or have interest in being a head coach this year, you will be required to attend one of the following clinics: March 15th from 6-9pm or March 19th from 1-4pm. If you have any interest to be an assistant coach, please try and attend one of the sessions. Please be in athletic gear and bring your glove. The clinic will be hands on and provide a variety of practice drills and ideas to teach the basic fundamentals of the game.
I would also like to thank all the Babe Ruth baseball players that attended the winter skills clinics this year! Having all our high school and legion coaches being able to work with over 130 players this winter was an exciting time to see a very dedicated group of kids wanting to improve at the game of baseball. We hope to see you there again next year! As Cal Ripken once said, “The game of baseball is made up of many little things. If we do all the little things right, then we’ll never have a big thing to worry about.” That’s our goal, and we’re looking forward to working with your kids and coaches this summer!
Greg Salvevold As our season approaches our monthly newsletters will be a great tool for date reminders, so please keep reading! What else would you like to see in the monthly newsletters?? Please let me know!
