ANNUAL REPORT TO THE PUBLIC 2016-2017 October 10, 2016 This year’s current enrollment numbers, grades K-12 is 509 students. This is 2 more students than we had last year. Our student population is 51% male and 49% female. Our demographic make-up is 93.71% white, 3.93% Hispanic, 0.59% Black and 0.59% Asian. Currently 63% of our students qualify for our free and reduced lunch rate. Last year we had 66% of our students qualify. Here’s a little bit more about our Alpena Public Schools’ Students. This year: 2.55% of our students are in our Alternative Education Program. 6.68% of our students are in our Gifted and Talented Program. 0.79% of our students are Limited English Proficient. 12.77% of our students are in our Special Education Programs. Our average ACT score is 18. The national average is 21 and the state average for Arkansas is 20.4. We offer 4 AP classes. Last year we administered 13 exams in English Literature, World History, and Biology. Our average scores were 2.6 in English Literature, 4.0 in World History, and 2.6 in Biology. The overall average AP score was 2.46. We currently have 71 employees—We have 44 certified teachers and 27 classified support staff. The average teacher salary is $42,993.22. This is an average increase of $1,901.79 per teachers since year prior. Our district has 100 percent “highly qualified teachers.” Of those numbers, 8 of our teachers are National Board Certified! Our test scores show that our schools...and our students…are achieving. Our ESSA Reports with our ACT Aspire data show our students to be at or above State score percentages in all areas. Iowa Test Scores for grades 1 and 2, as well show that our students are above the state averages.

Here is how funds were spent last year for the Alpena School District---$2,558,651.51 was spent on Instruction, $452,384.90 on Maintenance of the facility, $213,804.98 on Transportation, $254,833.30 on Food Service. We operated 1,246 safe routes to school last year on our buses and served a total of 92,825 breakfasts and lunches last year. Our School Board members are current on training requirements and extremely supportive of the work we do. We are thankful for them as well as all our teachers and staff and their hard work on behalf of the kids in our schools.
