Opportunity knocks INTRODUCTION When opportunity knocks, will you be prepared to answer the door? America is known as the ‘land of opportunity’. While opportunities in the US shipping industry can be hard to find, particularly if you’re an outsider, forecasters say there are still a number of undiscovered gems within arm’s reach. From assets to equities, some opportunities are buried right below the surface and others are hiding in plain sight. While many Jones Act markets are dominated by established domestic players, new entrants from both sides of the Atlantic are starting to chase the ‘American dream’. From tankers, tugs and barges to containerships and offshore support vessels the TradeWinds Jones Act Shipping Forum will explore the trends that are shaping the US shipping industry’s core markets, investment opportunities, political climate and regulatory landscape. In addition to the shale boom, which has helped push rates for Jones Act product tankers to six-digit highs, presenters and panelists will investigate asset values, LNG power, private equity, integrated logistics, banking, shipbuilding and the ban on crude oil exports.
