y Bruno guided the Oswego Stat e women’s basketball team to its 10th consecu tive SUNYAC post-season appeara nce after starting the season with six straight wins before posting an ove rall record of 11-15 and a SUNYAC record of 8-10. At the start of the season, the Lakers captured first place at the Max Ziel Tournament with Colleen McCread y earning MVP honors, while Kayla Ryan was also named to the all-tournament team. It was a solid season for Ryan, who led Oswego State in scoring and was named Second Team All-SUNYAC for the third straight season. The junior forward became the ninth player in Laker women’s basketball histo ry to reach the 1,000-point plateau on Februar y 15 against New Paltz. Ryan wen t on to finish the season with 1,010 care er points, and ranked fourth in the conference in scoring at 13.4 points per gam e and seventh in the league in rebo unding at 6.8 rebounds per contest.

Meet the Coach

Tracy Bruno enters her fifth season as Oswego State women’s basketball coach for the 2011-12 season. In 2010-11, Bruno led the Lakers to an overall record of 11-15 and a SUNYAC record of 8-10 to earn their tenth straight trip to the SUNYAC playoffs as the sixth seed.

Bruno came to Oswego State after having served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Hillsdale College, where she helped lead the Chargers to a 19-9 record in the 2006-07 season and an appearance in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game. Bruno is a 1994 graduate of Saginaw Valley State University where she was a five-year member of the women’s basketball team and a two-year captain. She was selected to all-conference, all-defensive, and all-academic teams throughout her playing career and was a member of a Saginaw Valley State team that played in the NCAA Division II Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16. Bruno earned a bachelor’s degree in physical and health education, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University. She has continued her education as she graduated from the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy in 2009 and the NACWAA/HERS Institute for Administrative Advancement in 2007.

In the classroom Today’s student-athletes are faced with many challenges both on and off the playing field. With this in mind, Oswego State is proud to have developed one of the leading NCAA Challenging Athletic Minds for Personal Success (CHAMPS)/Life Skills programs in the country, consisting of five commitment areas: * Athletic excellence * Academic excellence * Personal development * Career development * Service Oswego State has two staff members dedicated to academic support programs for its student-athletes, such as the Student-Athlete Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM) programs in addition to the CHAMPS/Life Skills program.
