WHO WEARE Colonial Church is a family on a mission helping people find and follow Jesus. Located in Wichita Falls, North Texas, the church campus is in the hub of the busiest part of town and is surrounded by retail, financial, and residential centers, as well as Sheppard Air Force Base, Midwestern State University, Vernon College, and the Sikes Center Mall.
HISTORY
In 1988, several families in Wichita Falls felt the need to reach more people with the gospel so they decided to plant a new church. Colonial Church, in affiliation with the Southern Baptist denomination, began at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. Rapid growth prompted the church to relocate into Notre Dame Junior High School until the opportunity came to purchase our current location.
LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE
We believe the Bible teaches that the church is best led by a diversity of leaders, where various gifts unite to provide a wholeness of perspective. Therefore, we have a leadership team that represents a variety of personalities and gifts to guide this church. Together, we seek to join God in His mission and submit to Jesus as the head of the church. We have a team of Elders who oversee the vision, mission, and ministries the Lord has given our church body. Any man who serves as a Colonial Elder is to possess the character qualities described in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1 :5-9. Elders are nominated by the existing elder team and confirmed for service by a congregational vote. We also have Deacons who focus on serving the body and supporting the ministries of the church. The Lead Pastor serves alongĀ side the Executive Pastor and Elders as a leadership team that seeks to carry out the mission and vision of Colonial Church.
OUR MISSION
We are a family on a mission helping people find and follow Jesus.
We believe finding Jesus is the journey of faith, initiated by God's Spirit, that establishes our belief in the Gospel. What is the Gospel? Simply put, the word "Gospel" comes from the Greek wording meaning "good news:' The Gospel is the only "good news" of salvation and transformation (Rom 1:16, 1 Cor 15:1-4). The Gospel is one long, sustained, amazing announcement of some very good news of what Jesus has done, is doing, and will do to save sinners and redeem the world. We believe to follow Jesus is what being a disciple is all about. We derive our definition of a disciple from the scene in the book of Matthew where Jesus called His first disciples (Matt 4:19). A disciple, then, is a follower of Jesus that helps others to follow Jesus. As the Church, we are disciples being changed by Jesus and living on mission together with Him. So if we are to live as disciples of Jesus, what are we supposed to do?
OUR VALUES
Throughout the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament, we see that disciples of Jesus do five things. Of course, there are many things that Christ followers do, but we believe they can be grouped into five outcomes. These outcomes are the five irreducible minimums of a disciple. 1. Love God: Making intimacy with God the highest priority 2. Live Connected: Sharing life together in authentic community 3. Serve Others: Using God-given gifts for the benefit of others 4. Give Generously: Investing all of life in a way that displays the Gospel 5. Share Jesus: Sharing Jesus' Good News in circles of influence
At Colonial Church our desire is to see every disciple of Jesus practicing and growing in these values. We are committed to developing rhythms around these values, both in our personal lives and our church's practice, so that we help every man, woman, and child have the repeated opportunity to find and follow Jesus.
