Sports & Education GCHS defeats JCM BY LORI CATHEY With the Gibson County Pioneers offense struggling, Martin Westview went on an 120 run. Pioneer Jercolby Milan made back-to-back 3pointers to end the quarter, but Westview had a 16-11 lead. Westview built on its first-quarter lead by out scoring Gibson County 16 to 9, taking a 32-20 advantage into the half. Gibson County opened the third quarter by pulling within 5 points
of Westview. It was started by Joe Lee making a lay-up followed by Colton Marcle with a strong drive to the basket for 2 points. Lee hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Westview, with a big run at the first of the fourth quarter, was too much to overcome for the Pioneers. Gibson County lost to Westview 67-43. Scoring for Gibson County were: Joe Lee 19, Jercolby Milan 11, Colton Marcle 9, Zach Eskew 2 and Houston
Cunningham 2. During the Martin Lions Club Christmas Tournament the Gibson County Pioneers defeated JCM 77 to 74 in overtime. The Pioneers came back from an 18point deficit in the fourth quarter to win. The Pioneers leading scorer was Colton Marcle with 21 points, Zach Eskew with 17 points, Joe Lee finished with 16 points, Jercolby Milan 11 points, Qua Harris 10 points and Cobly Marcle 2 points.

GC Lady Pioneers take down Dresden 59 to 45 BY LORI CATHEY Gibson County Lady Pioneers started the game off well. Lady Pioneer Jasmine Whittemore made a pull-up jump shot for two points to get things started. The two squads traded baskets throughout the first quarter. With 45 second left, Whittemore came up with a steal and a great pass to Erin Lannom for an easy lay-up to give Gibson County a 15-14 lead headed to the second quarter. Lady Pioneer Nacole Johnson scored 7 of the 11 points in the second quarter with a 3-pointer from the
top of the key to take a 26-23 lead at halftime. The Lady Chargers began to close the gap with a couple of 3-pointers and several missed shots by the Lady Pioneers in the third quarter. Westview tied the game at 32 all with 3:58 remaining and took a 3734 lead by the end of the quarter. Gibson County’s Whittemore made a 3-pointer from the left wing to start the fourth to tie the game at 37. The Lady Pioneers and Lady Chargers went back and forth for most of the final quarter. With less than two
minutes to play the Lady Chargers went on a ten-point run with two consecutive 3pointers to defeat the Lady Pioneers 52-43. Nacole Johnson led the team scoring with 16 points. Jasmine Whittemore added15 points to the game. Sarah Beth Mullins and Erin Lannom each had 6 points. In the Huntington Point Guard Classic the Lady Pioneers defeated Dresden 59 to 45. Leading the team was Jasmine Whittemore with 23 points, Cara Beth Holt 10 points, Nacole Johnson 9 points, Sarah Beth Mullins 8 points and Erin Lannom 7 points.
