Page’s Millpond is the namesake of the adjacent town of Lake View. It was originally constructed in 1792 when Preserved Ford and his son Major William Ford erected a dam across Bear Swamp seven miles west of its confluence with Lumber River. Mr. Ford's mill used the water power to mill corn and gin cotton. Joseph Nichols Page acquired the property in 1873 from his brother-in-law, Dr. C.T. Ford. He built the second millhouse and changed the name to Page's Mill. In addition to running the mill, Mr. Page operated a general store and a post office on the site. The present millhouse was built in 1934 by Mr. B.P. Parish, Sr. Today, Page's Millpond is a beautiful recreational property with abundant fishing and waterfowl hunting opportunities. The 295 acre tract includes approximately 60 acres of open water in the mill pond, and around 40 acres of upland containing the mill house, cabins and two storage buildings, and a stand of planted pines. The remainder is in Bear Swamp, a lowcountry cypress swamp that looks like it’s right out of the pages of a magazine! Every structure is rich with history. The mill house has operable flood gates, the master bedroom addition to the cabin is walled with salvaged cypress felled by Hurricane Hugo, and the old mill stone overlooks the boat dock. It’s all a story over 200 years in the making, ready for you to contribute the next chapter. It is not a tract of land, it is a tract of opportunity. Opportunity to hunt a private swamp in the mornings, to fish in the afternoon and then relax on the porch in the evening. Opportunity to own and enjoy a genuine piece of South Carolina history! Page’s Millpond is located 45 minutes from Florence, one hour from Myrtle Beach, and one hour from Fayetteville, NC. Showings are strictly by appointment only.
