1 Leave the New Forest Tour at the

Hollands Wood campsite just north of Brockenhurst village on the A337.

Off road except for 0.2 of a mile on a quiet lane at Lyndhurst end. An ideal way to cycle from Lyndhurst to Brockenhurst or vice versa. Cycle through Forestry Commission Inclosures that take you from the edge of Brockenhurst village, to Lyndhurst, via a network of gravel tracks in the heart of the Forest. Look out for deer, ponies and if you’re very lucky a free range pig!

2 Head up Balmer Lawn Road by the

hotel and bear left at way-marked sign number ‘31’ (Beaulieu/Lyndhurst) up the gravel track to the “Standing Hat” Forestry Commission car park. Keep left at fork towards car park, up slight incline.

3 At the top of the car park go through

Brockenhurst Village One of the largest villages in the heart of the New Forest National Park. It is well known for the diversity of its shops, tea houses, pubs and high quality restaurants. It is here that ponies and donkeys roam freely and drink from ‘The Watersplash’ at the bottom of the main street on their way to graze on the open heathland and ancient woods which surround the village

the gate and immediately take the right fork at way-marked sign ‘32’.

Lyndhurst Village Often regarded as the “Capital” of the New Forest, with its museum, cycle hire, shops, pubs and district council offices. The village skyline is dominated by St Michael and All Angels Church where, in the churchyard, lies the grave of Alice Liddell, Lewis Carroll’s inspiration for ‘Alice in Wonderland’.

4 Continue straight on at crossroads with way-marked sign ‘33’.

5 Through two gates and straight on. 6 At T junction turn left and continue straight on through gate towards buildings on top of hill and join the tarmac surface.

7 Continue for 200m until turning left

onto a gravel track. Proceed through a gate and into Forest Inclosure.

8 At way-marked sign ‘34’ turn right (Frohawk Ride).

9 After half a mile turn right at T

junction then through a gate and turn left, continue on past way-marked sign ‘36’ (Lyndhurst) to boxed gate and way-marked sign ‘37’. Go through the boxed gate and onto Beechen Lane.

10 Finish at the end of this road on the

outskirts of Lyndhurst. Dismount and pick up the New Forest Tour in the lay-by at the end of the lane towards Lyndhurst on the A337. Alternatively you can walk into Lyndhurst village or turn left for the Crown Stirrup Public House.
