Week 7 mapquest for life Life in the Fast Lane “What are God’s plans for my life and are they mine?” “I’m sorry Stephanie; we will not be able to hire you.” Stephanie couldn’t believe her ears. She was more qualified for this job than any of the other applicants. Working for Sandy’s Candies couldn’t be any more difficult than working for Bart’s Bon Bons. In addition to all the experience she had, her outgoing, friendly personality would be a bonus to the business. Customers wanted to feel good about ditching their diets. Nobody wanted to be greeted by a buzz kill. And surely the hiring manager had noticed her neat, contemporary grooming habits. The sweater she was wearing was in the hottest new color, pomegranate. Maybe the manager was hung up on the hours she could work. The wanted ad had listed the hours as 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, five days a week. Those hours sounded good, however, she had dance lessons on Monday until 7:00 pm, piano lessons every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 pm and arriving at 3:00 pm would be cutting into her BFF time with Stacy. She was so perfect for this job; surely the store could afford to be a little more flexible? “I’m sorry, too. Sandy’s Candies doesn’t know what it will be missing,” she said and flounced off. Stephanie’s story seems silly and immature. We can all relate to busy schedules and the juggling act that comes with prioritizing our time. But, how did she expect to get a job when she wasn’t available to work the hours they needed? Sometimes we approach our spiritual life the same way. We want to be significant and valuable, but in the business of our lives have we made ourselves unavailable to God? This week we will examine a passage that deals with God’s request for our time and talents. Wouldn’t it be interesting to find that God will use you as you make yourself available?
