MAIN STREET: What do people who like you say about you? jIM: It’s nice to hear people say that I’m always smiling and that I’m a positive person. Last month, I was playing catch with my kids Chris and Amanda while watching my son Dan play baseball at the rec field. My friend Don had given me a check about an hour earlier and, it turns out, the check had fallen out of my pocket. Someone at the field found the check, saw Don’s name on it and returned it to him. He then told that person to give it to the guy “who’s always smiling.” The person looked around for a guy with a big smile, found me, and told me the entire story.
You’re originally from Port jefferson, N.Y. According to local legend, P. T. Barnum “discovered” Port jefferson during the 1870s when his circus traveled to the village. How old were you when you first walked a tightrope and learned how to juggle? [Laughs] Yes, indeed! I am from Port Jeff. In fact, my church was located on Barnum Avenue. To answer your question, I still haven’t figured out the tightrope, but I learned to juggle when I was 10 and still love to throw apples, oranges, balls, bean bags and my kids up in the air to see if I can catch them. You’re a wealth advisor. Where’s the big money these days: real estate, the stock market or designer cupcakes? Near my office in downtown Ridgewood, the designer cupcake stores are being matched only by the onslaught of new frozen yogurt stores! But, seriously, a diversified portfolio of stocks and bonds with a strategy to monitor risk always offers good potential.
Two-part question: Who let the dogs out, and what can you do to bring them back? I let our dog Parker out every morning, and with a whistle he happily trots back. f
