Attn: Steve Wiseman Superintendent of Schools Atchison County Community Schools Subject: Resurfacing Baseball & Softball Infields

Steve, thanks for contacting us for new infield material. Sorry I have not been able to get up to Effingham as soon as I hoped, it’s that time of year when everyone is trying to get ready for spring sports and though we are normally transporting equipment up through your part of the country on a fairly regular basis, this just hasn’t been the case this last week or two. One of the problems with requests like yours is the amount of what-ifs. In this case I have to try to break-out the price for: 1. Scratching up the existing shale on the infields of both the BB and SB infields and placing the material back onto the existing warning track, to achieve this we will require a tracked skidsteer and a ballooned tired material handler and a tractor to power it, as well as a laser assisted land leveling scraper and tractor to laser level the two warning tracks and the subgrade of the two infields before we can consider moving new infield material onto the infields. 2. Because we don’t want loaded trucks driving on either of the two fields, we will have to determine a satisfactory location for truckers to dump their loads, as the trucks hauling the material will not arrive all on the same day, (more like a period of a week). Approximately twoinches of material on the baseball infield will require 10.0 semi-loads --- and 7.0 loads for approximately 2.1 inches for the softball infield. Somehow we will have to coordinate these trucks to dump in an apparent place as they unsystematically arrive and we don’t want to tie someone up for a week just waiting for these drivers needing someone to guide them in for every dump. 3. Every semi-load will haul about 24-tons of material and each load will require us to load and transport the shale in the material handler onto the infields (5 loads of the mat. handler per each 24-ton semi load --- so we will want the drivers to unload as close to the ballfields as possible). 4. Once the material is in place on the infields, we will have to laser-grade the infields once again. Ideally, if we’re careful, we won’t have to disturb and re-locate the bases, home plate or the pitcher’s rubber. One of the trucks will bring us a partial load of clay that we will install in the normal places at home plate and pitcher’s mound, thus saving a considerable amount of money

on the typical installation of clay. 5. Of course, you may want three-inches of infield material, or more, so along with the price for the first two-inches of new infield material I’m able to price this separately for the number of inches you desire. So, to activate/coordinate the personnel, equipment, stockpile new, red-shale, infield material, excavate and re-locate the existing infield material onto the warning tracks, laser-grade the subgrade of the two infields and warning tracks, load, move and spread the stockpiled shale to the infields via the lite, footprinted material handler (see pic.), and laser-grade the infields finish elevation and clean up any disturbed areas the charge will be: $26,940.00. To add an additional inch of new, red-shale on the baseball infield and 0.9” on the softball infield, the two ballfields will cost $10,560.00 additional if requested at this time. Steve, please expect us to spend as much as 4-5 days to install the first two-inches after the material has arrived. We work on weekends and we can often adjust for practice sessions on the fields. Thank you for consideration us for helping you with your ballfield. We are confident you will be satisfied with our degree of attention. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. Sincerely, Scott Williams O: (816) 246-9595 C: (816) 916-5892 [email protected]
