Course Description This course is designed to have you better understand your strengths and weaknesses and how that affects your performance in the workplace. You will further develop skills and come up with specific solutions for your areas of weakness. You will learn to improve time management and organizational skills. Major topic areas to be covered include communicating effectively, handling conflict and frustrations in the workplace, and searching for as well as keeping employment. We will also spend class time exploring different stress-handling techniques.

Homework Homework will be given weekly to reinforce the material learned. It will be checked at the beginning of the next class and graded based on how well you follow the instructions, grammar and spelling as well as creativity.

Late Homework

Late homework will not be accepted unless the student informs the instructor at the beginning of the class that it is due (before the grace period is over and class starts) Late homework will receive a 25% penalty each day past the due date.

Lab Assignments & Projects All of the assignments are focused on you. You will be given some lab time in class to work on some assignments, but you will likely need additional time outside of class to complete an assignment. Each assignment you do should be completed to the best of your ability to showcase what you can do and how you apply the skills to a real-life scenario. Each assignment (project) will prepare your to complete your final project. Save your work on the server; you may also want a backup copy of your assignment. If you lose your work before turning it in, you must redo it.

Quizzes & Group Work Due to the nature of the course, Personal Development only includes POP quizzes. In place of tests, the course does involve multiple instances of GROUP WORK; students will be placed into groups to complete an assignment. ALL participants receive the same grade for the submitted work. If you are absent or arrive late during a GROUP WORK assignment, you will receive a zero; however, an exception will be made for an excused lateness or excused absence.

Final Project Your Final Project is a two part presentation which will reflect the work you complete throughout the semester. It will include a Power Point Presentation and a Book that will be presented at the end of the class. Please note that your Final Project comprises 30% of your final grade for the course.

Professionalism Because you are training to enter a professional IT career, you will be graded on your professionalism throughout this course. Professionalism is graded based on your workmanship, work effort, conduct, and attendance.

Your Personal Student Account You have been given a student account on the school’s server. You can save your work in your own folder on the server. The folder is located on the H: drive. In order to access your folder or the server, you will have to logon. It is advised that you save your work to the server and have a backup copy of your assignments on a flash drive. Do not rely solely

on the flash drive because files can be damaged due to improper handling; therefore, use the server to save your work. Make sure you logoff the computer when you are done; otherwise, others have access to your files for copying, editing, and deleting.

Policy on Plagiarism The work that you turn in must be your own work. It is okay to discuss assignments and techniques with each other, but the work must be yours. If there is any plagiarism, you and the person that supplied the work will both receive a grade of zero (0). Copying of work will not be tolerated! You are training for a professional career. Using someone else's work will not benefit your progress.

Lateness and Absenteeism Policies You are expected to arrive on time for class and stay until the end of class. your best interest, arrive to class on time so you don’t miss out on this valuable time because the opening activity is used to catapult us into the new material. Being either late or absent for class will affect your success in the course for several reasons. First and foremost, you will miss important information and activities that you will need in your future career and in order to successfully complete assignments and tests. And secondly,

your attendance is 10% of your final grade and every lateness counts as only a 1/2 Present grade for that day. If you miss class, it is your responsibility to obtain a copy of any notes or handouts from your fellow classmates. Any handouts that were given out will be available online at the classes website at http://engrade.com/workingwithyou. All lab work must be completed on your own time. Instructor reserves the right to limit make-ups for assignments.
