O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. 3 Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! 4 I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. 5 You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. 6

I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. 7 Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. 8 I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely. 9

But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin. They will go down into the depths of the earth. 10 They will die by the sword and become the food of jackals. 11 But the king will rejoice in God. All who swear to tell the truth will praise him, while liars will be silenced. NLT

Introduction: *Dehydration can be a very serious matter! **The soul like the human body is thirsty but not for water but for a deep relationship with God and I would suggest to you that our souls are dehydrated and we are experiencing the effects of our soul’s thirst!

Preparing our minds for action: *Psalm 63 is a Psalm of trust based upon David’s close relationship to God!

2. Satisfying the thirst of my soul begins when I picture God in his sanctuary!

3. Satisfying the thirst of my soul happens when I begin to praise God from the depths of my soul!

**David is in the wilderness of Judah probably on the run from King Saul dealing with distress of his exile and banishment from his home! ***You can hear the poet King’s longing to share in public worship as he meditates on his God but David is nowhere near the tabernacle! ****David inspired by the Holy Spirit of God shows us that true worship is not about the place you are at but the person you have relationship with! *****David realizes in this desert region that his greatest need is communion and fellowship with his God (which is all of humanity’s need) and helps us then realize how to satisfy our great need as well!

Main idea:

4. Satisfying the thirst of my soul happens when I began to meditate on God!

5. Satisfying the thirst of my soul happens when I begin to trust in God and not fret over the circumstances I find myself in!

I need God because my soul has a thirst that only the love of God which is better than life can satisfy! Closing Remarks:

1. Satisfying the thirst of my soul begins by recognizing and understanding my deep need for God!

David while out in the desert realized as his body thirsted for water so also his soul thirsted for God!
