Piedmont Baseball and Softball has begun a capital fundraising campaign to raise funds for facilities and infrastructure improvements, lighting improvements and rework to the fields at both the Swift Park and Valley Road complexes. Piedmont Baseball and Softball has been a community gathering place for almost 40 years. From early spring through the fall each year over 2500 players are involved in baseball and softball. There are some 800 Hockessin area families involved in the program volunteering their time or just watching their children play baseball or softball. It takes a lot of time, effort and money to run a league, maintain and enhance the fields, provide a safe playing area and a safe environment. Operating the league is all a volunteer effort. The fundraising campaign dubbed “Build It & They Will Come” is designed to improve the playing fields that have been in use for 15 to 40 years. The Capital Fundraising Campaign hopefully will raise needed funds to support the numerous upgrades and expansions to our facilities including bringing the fields up to the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth 50-70 foot field standards. The Campaign funds will allow us to upgrade, install modern and safer facilities and it will also allow the league to grow as new and exciting changes are made to baseball and softball over the next 20 years or more. Among the projects being evaluated are: • Renovating the T-Ball field for Buddy-Ball to provide physically and/or mentally challenged ballplayers the opportunity to participate in baseball or softball. • Expansion of the outfield fences on Swift 2. Completion of fencing on Swift 1 • Adjusting Swift 1& 2 home plate area to better accommodate Cal Ripken 50-70’ play • Modernizing the field lighting on Swift 1, Swift 2 and Swift 4. • Re-grading the Prep baseball field. • Backstop extension on the Prep field • Resetting the outfield fences on Doyle field. • Reallocation of fields for softball. • New dugouts for baseball and softball • Re-grading the parking area and the areas around Swift 1 and Swift 2 Some projects will be dependent on others and some have already started. It all really depends on your support. Donation options and league contacts are listed on the next page. You can donate to a specific improvement or to the general fund. Please consider donating today. Our goal is to provide for the next generation of baseball and softball players. Your children or maybe your grandchildren. Thank you in advance.
