END OF YEAR NEWSLETTER 2015
PLAN ESCALÓN find the need, meet the need, change the nation bringing hope to honduras
Plan Escalón completed another successful school year in November, 2015, with graduation services for 89 seniors. Our student body excelled academically this year, with 16% of the students achieving top grades and honor status among their class. Plan Escalón offers degrees in two areas of study; Computer Science & Technology and Business Marketing. Our Bible school also celebrated graduation ceremonies.
TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION Plan Escalón continues to prove themselves as one of the best educational institutions in the nation. Because of support from our partners, improvements in the technology of our classrooms have progressively bettered the educational atmosphere. We hope to continue with these advances in the laboratories, the library, the facilities, and in the tools and methods used by our faculty and staff. The vision, roots, and underlying theory behind Plan Escalón is Christ-centered, church-centered, and therefore always striving for excellence in all we do. In honor of our Lord Jesus Christ, we continue to provide spiritual training, life and business ethics, and admonition in the ways of the Lord. It is through this avenue that we will provide better training for the young people who come here. They seek better opportunities than their natural destinies give, and it is part of our sincerest desire and mission to provide those.
Sponsor a student, and help make their dreams come true.
INTERVIEWS At the end of November we already had 400 applications for the 2016 school year. Some families travel two days to get here and must spend the night on campus before the long trip home.
The interview process is lengthy, tedious, and often heart-breaking. After seven days of interviews in the first week of January, we interviewed 444 potential new students. We have accepted 226 of those, who will go through an introductory course, which is a 3-week trial period in which they can prove themselves able to rise up to Escalón academics and life as an “escalonero” (Escalón student.) We are praying that God will lead us in His will to accept those we need to, while broken in our hearts for the many that will have to wait another year!
We trust God for direction on how many students we will be able to admit, prayerfully believing that our partner support will continue strong,
and continue to climb as it has every year, and meet the need.
LIFE IN ACTION – 2015
Our gratefulness is in Jesus who has allowed us to do 387 outreaches to the communities of Honduras in 2015.
Through partner support we were able to bless God’s precious people including orphans, the homeless, over 100 widows, the elderly, single mothers, low income families, and young people in need. Most of the organized churches in Honduras do not yet feel committed to help those in dire need and improve the welfare of these people. There is a great amount of indescribable need. We’re still finding some communities with no power suppy. Slowly, the churches are seeing our example and considering the challenge of taking a step of faith in the Great Provider and developing whatever programs they may do to help their people. May we continue to be this example of light and love.
Our Beautiful Widows. It is a Pleasure to Serve.
More than 387 communities in Honduras were touched by our Life In Action outreaches this year. And while our primary method is to give material aid, the heart of our mission is to reach these people for the kingdom of God. We’re able to do this by both national and international support, without which, we would not have this life-changing impact. Our gratitude is deep to all of our faithful partners.
Families received food, clothing, and hard-to-come-by shoes. Many communities were also blessed with medical brigades bringing medicine, anti-parasite pills, and dental and medical services.
This year 27 water purification systems were installed in the communities in the area, giving more than 20,000 people clean water, which will prevent countless diseases caused by water contamination. We provided decent housing for 40 people who would have no way to aquire it on their own. We distributed 1,200 wheelchairs to special needs people. You can imagine their joy at receiving a help that they would’ve gone without, and continued to struggle the rest of their lives perhaps.
To your health, Honduras, in Jesus’ name.
Most of all, when we recount the 90-plus churches we have planted and support, the 28,747 lives who made Jesus their Lord in 2015, and the 400,500 people overall this year who have been blessed and benefited from Tree of Life/Plan Escalón, we can only humbly thank you for your prayers and financial support. May 2016 show increase in that support and in the effect we are having for Honduras – to find the need, meet the need, and change the nation.
As we begin 2016, we welcome two new missionaries to our team. Warren and Natalia Walsh moved here in December, 2015, from Midland, Michigan. They bring many skills with years of experience, as well as years of ministry leadership. Warren and Natalia will be the hosts for the incoming groups who visit. Warren is a carpenter by trade so his expertise in building projects will be invaluable. Natalia is a teacher, and works administratively. Combined, they’ve been to TOL almost 40 times, with Warren being a major part of the yearly Mosquito Coast trips. They look forward to a long, productive, and happy time here.
Dr. Guy Henry has announced the implementation of restructuring the directorship of Plan Escalón. Those who have, for many years, been in leadership of the main areas of Tree of Life, Arbol De Vida, Plan Escalón, and Life In Action have taken active directorship of their respective areas. Dr. Henry (beloved “Pastor Guy”) will move on to what God has for him in his life and calling upon this earth. The ministry is in good, capable, experienced hands, and we look forward to another year blessed of God, being more productive, prosperous, and blessed this year than ever before. In His grace, we move on and press toward the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus.
