The Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA) is a not-for-profit organization established in 1991 to provide opportunities for women to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life.
Apologies…..This was omitted from the last Newsletter SWING INTO SPRING was a SMASHING success! On Saturday, May 19, 40 EWGA Dayton members enjoyed a wonderful day of friends, golf, flowers and yummy food at Locust Hills Golf Course. It was an A,B,C,D handicapped event, which brought new people together to play with and learn from each other. We all had a great time, and agreed that Locust Hills will be on our “return next year” list. So, if you did not play this time, make a mental note to sign up for this outing next year at kick-off. It is definitely worth the drive to Springfield (very easy to find… close to I70)! As you can see by the photographs, a good time was definitely had by all! The pork chop and chicken portions were enough to feed at least two people each, so everyone left with a very full stomach and a beautiful flowering prize of some sort! First, thanks to the committee who put it all together: Sharon Henderson (Golf Events Chair), Rose Plummer, Clare Commons, Cathy Zaenglein and Sally Doran. Thanks also to Mary Rice for setting up the teams and doing handicaps and scoring. KUDOS, ladies. A job very well done! Thanks also to our numerous sponsors! Sally Doran has been so effective in this role, it becomes more and more difficult to find enough space to list everyone.. but we need to make sure to visit these businesses so they know their sponsorship is worthwhile. The Presenting Sponsor of the Swing into Spring event was Entrée Vous on Feedwire Road, a new sponsor for us. Ongoing sponsors include: Tudor Financial, Inc., AAA Miami Valley, Double Eagle Golf Center, Brio Tuscan Grille, UBS Financial and Golf Galaxy in addition to our Premier Golf Sponsors: Beavercreek Golf Club, Pipestone, Heatherwoode Golf Club and Yankee Trace. THANKS to all!! Donations of flowers and plants were made by many, many generous businesses. In addition, Rose Plummer’s husband actually MADE beautiful birdhouses that were awarded as prizes. THANK YOU, Joe!!! Participating donors included: SNACKS PROVIDED BY: SHEEHAN BROTHERS VENDING Yankee Street Market Knollwood Florist Spring Valley Garden Center Kroger Market in Springboro Krogers Market in Miamisburg Krogers – Kettering Brenda’s Flower’s and Gifts in Springboro Dorothy Lane Market in Springboro Burkhardt Greenhouse & Garden Center Beyond the Greenhouse & Garden Center Victoria Secrets Dayton Mall Wicklines Garden Center

LOTS OF RED, WHITE and BLUE!! Monday afternoon, July 16 at Sugar Valley Country Club saw 42 faithful EWGA members decked out in good old American red, white and blue playing in the Patriotic 9-Hole Flag Event (a little later than the July 4 holiday, but the spirit was there, just the same!). We had a box dinner, supplemented by tons of snacks provided by one of our very generous sponsors, Sheehan Brothers Vending. No one should have left hungry, that’s for sure. The rain held off, and the pro at the course complimented us for our great pace of play. If I recall correctly, he said something along the lines of “The men would still be out there lining up putts!”

Team scores were determined by using certain players’ scores on each hole and applying that person’s handicap – the catch was that we did not know whose score would count on each hole until after we played the hole. That element of surprise led to some really good scores….and some really bad ones! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS First place team, winning the prize of golf at Sugar Valley with cart: • Ruth Mansfield • Sandy Milford • Susan Hogan Second place team, winning the prize of golf at Heatherwoode with cart: • Sandi Fondersmith • Jill Robinette • Corinne Smith Third place team, winning the prize of golf at Beavercreek with cart: • Scooter Boehmer • Glenda Taylor • Tara Hudson Closest to the pin, winning a round of golf at Beavercreek with cart: • Sandi Fondersmith Longest drive, winning a round of golf at Heatherwoode with cart: • Diana Schwab The 50/50 raffle had over $100 in it for the winner, who was Ruth Mansfield. A BIG SHOUT OUT OF THANKS TO SHARON HENDERSON, YET AGAIN, FOR A FABULOUS EVENT. ALSO THANK YOU TO PENNY BOXLEY, MARY RICE, ROYA VARY, TONYA DAHM and CLAIR CYR FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP.
Once again, a true team effort created a great result. THANKS, ladies!
Some Fast Golf Facts: The driver swing speed of an average lady golfer is 62 mph; 96 mph for an average LPGA professional; 84 mph for an average male golfer; 108 mph for an average PGA Tour player; 130 mph for Tiger Woods; 148-152 mph for a national long drive champion. Hot humid air actually is lighter than cold, dry air, and water vapor is lighter than dry air, so on a humid day the air is actually less dense, providing less resistance. That means a golf ball will fly farther on a humid day – perhaps not by much but ..…… roll on the humidity
