Language Arts 7 Ms. Hamilton
[email protected] Classroom Rules
1. Respect others 2. Do your best 3. Make wise choices
About Me
I love puppies of all shapes and sizes, free samples at Costco, handwritten letters, making forts, finding grammatical errors in novels, cheerleading, Christmas decorations, new blankets, burned popcorn, making lists, and facing open doors. I don’t like doctors’ offices, milk, dust, the moon, misplacing things, penguins, sunburn, marshmallow peeps, unfinished water bottles, waiting for flights, or spilled milk. I love all different kinds of food, but I can never decide on what I want to eat. I spend way too much time looking at internet memes and then sending them to my friends. No, I don’t like to yell. Yes, it’s true that Ms. Faro and I are best friends outside of school. And yes, I’d love to see you at the Johnson football games!
About This Class
I have a passion for teaching Language Arts because this isn’t just a class about facts. In this class, we read the works of awesome writers, we learn lessons from fictional characters, we write to express ourselves, and we edit to make that expression exactly what we intend to say. We read nonfiction to learn about the world around us, and we read literature to understand life in poetic and beautiful ways. This class is special because it’s more than just reading books or learning grammar - it’s learning more about yourself at a really awesome time in your life. Are you ready for the school year to begin? Welcome to the Ham-Fam!
Grading System
A+ = 97 - 100 A = 90 - 96 B+ = 87 - 89 B = 80 - 86 C+ = 77 - 79 C = 70 - 76 D+ = 67 - 69 D = 60 - 66 F = below 60
Points
Homework/ Classwork 5 - 20 points Quizzes 10 - 50 points Tests 50 - 100 points Essays 20 - 60 points Projects 50 - 100 points
As you earn grades in our class, you’ll notice that each grade is the number of points you earned out of a total number of points available for that assignment. When I log that information into the gradebook, the points automatically add up to give you an average out of 100%. At the end of the marking period, your average percentage will be converted into a letter grade for when your report card gets sent home. Thanks, technology! I included this nifty little chart for you to keep track of how your average will be converted into the letter-grade format. Don’t lose it!
Supplies Please bring all of your required materials to class by Monday, September 11, 2017. This will be your first homework assignment, so don’t forget! • • • • • • •
One 3-subject notebook One folder Three blue or black pens Three pencils Highlighters Post-its Coloring supplies (these can stay in your locker unless if we need them in class)
Things To Know
1. No late homework or classwork will be accepted. If you come to class unprepared, you will earn a 0 for that assignment. The exceptions for this would be a long-term project/assignment or a family emergency (please send me an email ahead of time to let me know). Long-term projects/assignments: You will lose 10% per day that your assignment is late up to four days. On the fourth day, this grade will become a 0. 2. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to complete any work that you may have missed. Please speak to a classmate or me to find out what you missed. The number of days you were absent will be the number of days you have to make up your missed work. For instance, if you were absent for two days, you’ll have two days to complete the work you missed. 3. No cheating; just don’t do it. Don’t copy from the internet - I always find out. Don’t copy from a friend - you’ll both earn a 0 for that assignment. If you’re having trouble, please come see me.
