Portugal: Porto, the Algarve and Lisbon October 7 – 16, 2017

Day 2: Arrival in Porto: Welcome to Portugal! Settle in to your hotel in the heart of

10-day tour includes:

Day 1: Boston to Porto: Your trip begins with a regularly scheduled overnight

this 2,000-year-old UNESCO World Heritage-listed city. Meet your Tour Director for an orientation walking tour. Celebrate the beginning of your trip with a welcome dinner this evening.

Day 3: Porto Sightseeing, River Cruise & Port Wine Cellar: Get to know Porto like a true tripeiro (Porto resident) as you follow your local guide to places like the famed neoclassical Stock Exchange Palace and Baroque-style Clérigos Tower. In the afternoon, float along the beautiful Douro River and take in scenes of Porto’s vibrant waterfront. Back on shore, pay a visit to one of Porto’s most prestigious Port wine cellars, Ferriera, where you will have the opportunity to sit down to taste three of the cellar’s world-famous labels, paired with cheese.

Day 4: Évora Via Coimbra: Drive south, and stop to explore Coimbra on a guided walking tour of the city’s chapel and the country’s first university. Later, settle in to your hotel in Évora.

Day 5: Algarve via Évora: Before making your way to the sun-soaked Algarve region, follow a local guide as you stroll through the streets of UNESCO-recognized Évora, one of Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.

Day 6: Lagos & Cape St. Vincent: Discover the white-sand beaches, dramatic coastline and small towns of the Algarve region, southern Portugal’s resort living hot spot. Visit the seafaring towns of Lagos and Sagres, as well as Cape St. Vincent and admire stunning views of the sea from Sagres Fortress.

Day 7: Sightseeing Tour of Lisbon: Head back north to Lisbon, Portugal’s capital city, and embark on a guided tour. Admire views of the city from Eduardo VII Park, then pass the Plaza del Marqués de Pombal and the Mouraria District. Discover the city’s maritime heritage at the Monument to the Discoveries and Tower of Belém. Enjoy a free evening or add an excursion to a Fado Dinner & Show.

Day 8: Tomar and Fatima: Enjoy a short drive to Tomar where you'll take a guided tour of the city's UNESCO-listed church, the Convent of Christ. This 12thcentury site served as a fortress for the Knights of Templar and features eight cloisters which were built between the 15th and 16th centuries. Transfer to Fatima where you'll explore this religiously significant town, most widely known for the story of three young cousins who saw apparitions of an angel in 1916.

$799 per person for three-day extension to Lisbon and the Azores Day 10: Board your flight to Ponta Delgada, the largest city in the Azores, on the island of Sao Miguel. Explore the city with a guide. Day 11: Sao Miguel: Spend the day discovering the incredible scenery of Sao Miguel. Travel along the south coast, with stops at the Lagoa do Fogo Volcano, Caledeira Velha Forest, downtown Ribiera Grande for lunch, Pico do Carvao and Sete Cidades. Day 12: Board a flight back to Lisbon and enjoy one last free afternoon in Portugal. Day 13: Lisbon to Boston: Fly home!

Day 9: Sintra & the Portuguese Riviera: Journey to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Sintra and learn why the poet Lord Byron once called it a “glorious Eden.” Get a glimpse into royal life during a guided tour of the 19th-century, romanticist Pena Palace. On your way back to Lisbon, take in the coastal scenery of the Portuguese Riviera. Stop in the old fishing village of Cascais to eat lunch and discover the town’s winding, narrow streets, pastel-colored buildings and bustling fish market before continuing back to Lisbon. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your group this evening in Lisbon

Day 10: Lisbon to Boston: Your trips ends with a regularly scheduled, flight to Boston.
