Prayer. Passion. Presence. Purpose. The Haitian Timoun Foundation is more relationship, than formula. What that means for us as a non-profit organization based in the United States is that we don’t presume to have quick-fix answers for Haiti. This is precisely why we board airplanes more than a dozen times a year, and go to be with our extended Haitian family. This empowers and compels us to come back to the United States with a passion and mission to faithfully respond to the requests of our partners in Haiti, and to respond with the full conviction that Haiti deserves the best we have to offer.
Prayer. When someone asks what’s the first thing she can do to support the Haitian Timoun Foundation, the immediate response is - she can pray. Ask God that, in time, your heart for the poor and marginalized will match God’s heart for the poor and marginzalized. Ask God that your love for those living in extreme poverty will become contextualized, moving beyond the realm of the philosophical, and into the realm of active engagement.
Passion. God has a vision for this world we inhabit. God’s vision for a world of dignity and equality fuels HTF’s passion for Haiti’s poorest of the poor. You can support HTF by imagining a world where children are not forced to live on the street; where young girls are not forced to live as slaves or prostitutes; where the brightest of the brightest are given the opportunity to receive a top-rate education; where children with special needs are valued and loved; where children infected with HIV/AIDS are embraced and cared for; where families living in extreme poverty are given the opportunity to realize a future of hope; and where children are given the tools to become leaders in their community.
Presence. One of the most powerful ways a person can come to understand the depth and breadth of HTF is to travel to Haiti on a Vision Trip. Not only does
this provide a wonderful introduction to the work of HTF, it also affords one an appreciation of the complexity of Haiti’s challenges and needs. For many, a Vision Trip is just enough to infect someone with what Haitians call the “Haiti bug.”
Purpose. The needs in Haiti are real, and demand real approaches to meet them. Here are just a few of the ways that HTF supporters are making a real difference: Missional Allocation. Congregations are making mission personal by allocating a percentage of their Annual Budget to support the work of the Haitian Timoun Foundation. This step is a significant step for congregations to make, but it represents HTF’s ability to meet the grant requests and needs of our Haitian partners. Sponsorships. Individuals, families, small groups, and entire congregations are getting involved, and sponsoring children, college students, and families who live in extreme poverty. From $360 to $1,000 to $5,000 a year, sponsorship is the tip of the sword for providing the frequently forgotten day-to-day necessities for living and learning. HTFEmmaus. Stepping through doors that HTF has helped open, individual congregations are tapping into the gifts of their people, and organizing special projects with HTF’s partners. To learn more about any of HTF’s strategies in Haiti, you can invite a member of the HTF Leadership Team to call or travel to speak with your church leadership. You can also visit us online at www.htflive.org to sponsor a child or family. You can register online to travel to Haiti on an upcoming Vision Trip. You can host a special event at your congregation and in your community to raise awareness about the work of HTF. You can ensure that Haiti’s children have the opportunity to live and thrive.
