Creighton wrapped up the 2011 season with a 21-2-1 record and on a 12-game unbeaten streak. Princeton vs. Creighton This is the first meeting between the two squads. This is Princeton’s first game against a school in the state of Nebraska and first against an opponent in the Missouri Valley Conference. What Do We Have in Common? Princeton and Creighton have just one common opponent, Rutgers. The Jays defeated Rutgers 3-0 at home on Sept. 2. A week later Princeton fell 2-0 to Rutgers in the Tigers’ home opener. Nationally Ranked Opponents Princeton has faced three top-20 teams this season. The Tigers lost 3-0 to No. 12 St. John’s on Sept. 5, 10 to No. 12 Georgetown on Sept. 14 and tied Brown 1-1 on Oct. 6. Sanner Sensation Thomas Sanner has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week four of the five weeks it has been presented. The Tigers are the first team in Ivy League history to earn four such honors in a five-week span since the award was created in 1990. Sanner is the team’s leading scorer with three goals and five assists for 11 points. He is tied for fourth in the Ivy League in points and is the top scoring rookie in the league. Sanner is the first four-time Rookie of the Week recipient since Dartmouth’s Lucky Mkosana in 2008 and the first Tiger to earn four Rookie of the Week awards since Jason White in 1999. Beating the Back Princeton has allowed just three goals in the last five games, a goals against average of 0.57. Smile You’re on Camera Princeton has been on national television in each of the last three years, as fouryear old Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium is put on display. Princeton is undefeated in the last three years when playing on national television. The Tigers defeated Lafayette 2-1 in 2011, Harvard 2-1 in 2010, and St. John’s 1-1 in 2009 - all on ESPNU. Princeton also knocked off Yale 4-0 in 2009 on the Fox Soccer Channel.

17 Seconds Dylan Bowman scored just 17 seconds after subbing into the game against Rider on Sept. 21. The goal came in the 31st minute, the game’s opening goal, when Mark Linnville delivered a long throw into the box that was headed by Thomas Sanner to the left corner. Bowman kneed the ball down and popped it into the back of the net. The Tigers went on to win 3-1. Last Time Out Cameron Porter scored the game-tying goal in the 73rd minute in a 1-1 draw with No. 19 Brown. Both defenses did great jobs as the first shot on goal of the game didn’t come until the 33rd minute. That shot would be an easy grab by Princeton goalkeeper Seth MacMillan as the shot by Tariq Akeel was lofted from nearly 45 yards out. Princeton’s best chance of the first half came just a minute later. Porter had a shot blocked and senior Matt Sanner got the ball and hit goalkeeper Sam KernanSchloss. Junior Myles McGinley got the rebound but his shot was high. Brown would get on the board in the 38th minute when Tim Whalen one-timed a punched ball by MacMillan off a corner kick. The Tigers came out renewed in the second half and outshot the Bears 9-3 in the second session. Princeton started to come on strong around the 60th minute. Joe Saitta found Porter who fired a shot towards the goal and Matt Sanner used his body to redirect the shot but it went just wide. At that point Princeton had evened Brown in shots 11-11 and had a 4-1 edge in the second, proving to the crowd it was just a matter of time. It came minutes later in the 73rd when senior Mark Linnville delivered a long throw in into the box. Matt Sanner headed the throw and Porter put it away to the right of Kernan-Schloss. The Tigers had another great offensive effort in the 88th minute when Matt Sanner’s headed was followed up by Porter’s shot that was

stopped on the ground by the goalkeeper. On the other end of the field MacMillan made a spectacular save on a shot by Ben Maurey. MacMillan cut off the corner at the near post on a point blank shot to keep the game knotted at 1-1. Brown would get four straight corner kicks in the final two minutes of the game but the Tigers wouldn’t let anything come of them as the game went into overtime. Both teams entered the weekend undefeated in overtime, as Princeton was 1-0 and Brown 2-0-1. Shots in the two 10-minute overtimes was in Princeton’s favor 3-2 while Brown had the only shot on goal. Once again it was Maurey tested MacMillan but MacMillan was up for the challenge preserving the tie in the 103rd minute. Linnville had two long throw-ins from inside the 18, but the Tigers couldn’t repeat the results from earlier in the game as the chances were shots either wide or high. Princeton finished with a 19-15 edge in shots, while Brown won the corner kick battle 10-5. MacMillan made three saves for the Tigers, while KernanSchloss stopped five. Bragging About Barlow Jim Barlow ’91 is in his 17th season as head coach of the Tigers. He earned his 100th career victory in 2009 season with a 3-1 win over Penn on Nov. 7. With the team’s first win of the 2009 season, Barlow surpassed his former coach and former U.S. National Team coach Bob Bradley ’80 in the win column, with his 93rd victory. Bradley was Barlow’s coach, during his tenure from 1984-95, and finished with a 92-80-15 record. Barlow took over the program in 1996 and has been at the helm for 16+ seasons. Home Sweet Home Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium opened on September 2, 2008. The facility has seating for 2,356 spectators on three sides of the grass game field, called Myslik Field. On the sideline opposite the team benches is the bulk of the seating and one of three permanent buildings at the site, an enclosed press box atop a ticket office. The field behind the team benches is Plummer Field and is a Field Turf field used for practice. The facility has been the host for a number of national and international squads. The U.S. Men’s National Team held its pre-World Cup training camp here in May 2010. The U.S. Women’s National Team held a two-week training camp here in May 2012 preparing for an international friendly in Philadelphia. Ligue 1 team Paris Saint-Germain spent a week training at Roberts Stadium in July 2012. Quotes from the U.S. Men’s National Team “This is actually better than a lot of pitches I’ve played on before. The team’s enjoyed it. We’re out here working hard. And the staff and everyone that’s been a part of Princeton has done a tremendous job in helping us really take full advantage of the facilities here, whether it’s on the pitch or inside using the cold tubs and all the other facilities. It’s been great for us, we’ve really enjoyed it.” - Maurice Edu “The field’s been great and has held up really really well. It’s not only plush but it’s firm enough to withhold all of the bumps and bruises that we give it.” Tim Howard Roberts Stadium, named for Thomas S. Roberts ‘85, a Princeton goalkeeper and the project’s lead donor, also features Plummer Field, a turf practice area adjacent to the grass Myslik Field. Princeton’s game field is named in memory of Robert H. Myslik ‘90, a soccer alumnus and assistant coach who passed away in 2003.
The Coming Attractions Tonight’s game concludes Princeton’s five-game homestand. The Tigers will play just two more home games during the regular season, with five games on the road. Up next, Princeton travels to Columbia to resume Ivy League play on Saturday, Oct. 13.
