Wonderful World of Citrus Fruit 

You may already know that citrus fruits are high in Vitamin C, but did you know they also can promote heart health and even reduce stress? Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant – or protector of your cells – that also helps wounds heal and hold the inner fibers of your body together (super-healthy glue!) Use a spritz of lemon juice instead of salt to add flavor to your meal and reduce sodium. Your heart and cardiovascular system will thank you! Thanks to their natural oils, the scent of citrus fruits have been shown to be an effective way to help reduce stress and provide a calming effect.

On the Tray: What Will YOU Try?

Citrus Fruit Varieties of Citrus Clementine Grapefruit Kumquats Lemons Limes Mandarin Oranges Minneola Tangelos Oranges Pummelos Tangerines Ugli Fruit

Pink Grapefruit Tart and tangy with an underlying sweetness, grapefruit has a juiciness that rivals the ever popular orange and sparkles with many of the same health-promoting benefits. Although available throughout the year, they are in season and at their best from winter through early spring. Grapefruits usually range in diameter from 4-6” and include both seed and seedless in red, pink and white varieties. Kumquats A favorite in USD 232! The word “kumquat” comes from the Cantonese kun kü , meaning “golden orange.” A bit larger than an olive, the kumquat looks like a tiny, oval orange. A native of China, and also grown in Japan and the U.S., the kumquat is a citrus fruit that is entirely edible! The orange flesh is juicy, acidic and tart while the skin is fragrant and sweet. Just pop the entire fruit into your mouth to enjoy what has been described as “nature’s Warhead candy!” Minneola Tangelo These fruits are also called Honeybells because of their one slightly elongated end, which forms a bell shape. This large citrus fruit is a cross between a tangerine and a grapefruit. When ripe, it turns a deep red-orange color and is very easy to peel. These succulent, sweet fruits measure 3” to 3-1/2” in size and are usually seedless.
