Quilted Textures on Silk

Welcome! I love the quirky, whimsical vibe of the Folksy Fish pattern by No Hats in the House. These fish are loaded with personality. Here are a few palette ideas to kick off your thinking about color:  colorful rainbow fish with a low volume background (per the pattern)  bright purple, red, orange and yellow fish against a background in medium to deep blues, teals and greens  silvery shimmery fish with a background in dark blues, greens and grays The pattern offers five sizes of quilts: little, throw, twin, queen and king. The quilts are made larger by increasing the number of fish blocks so it is straightforward to make any size quilt desired. Each block is approximately 8”x10” finished. I typically like a change of scale in my quilts so I will discuss “scaling” fish blocks for a few larger fish. Once you piece some fish, you might want to try improv fish of your own in classes 2 and 3. Improv piecing some background rectangles for a bit more negative space will speed things up as well as make the quilt more dynamic visually. Here’s what I have in mind for the three classes:  Class 1 – fish #1, 2 and 3 and scaling fish blocks to different sizes  Class 2 – fish #4, 5 and 6 plus improv fish  Class 3 – fish #7, 8 and the retro balluga Each foundation pattern has several sections that we’ll need to cut apart and add a ¼” seam allowance. Before each class, please print copies of the fish patterns we’ll be making that day:  Four copies each of fish #1, 3, 4, 5, 6  Five copies each of fish #2, 8  Six copies each of fish #7 and retro balluga
