Quilting Guild of the Villages January 6, 2015 Minutes
The regular meeting of the Quilting Guild of The Villages was held on January 6, 2015 at the Laurel Manor Recreation Center. The meeting was called to order by President Beth Bender at 7:00 pm. She welcomed everyone and commented on the great attendance at this meeting. Members then recited the Pledge of Allegiance, the Secretary’s report was read and accepted. The Treasurer’s report will be emailed to the Chapter Presidents.
Old Business Sharon Musch reported she is pleased that everything was going so well with the planning and organization of this year’s Showcase scheduled for January 23rd and 24th. There are still Angel and Greeter volunteer openings and she encouraged members to sign up tonight. Joy Lynch reported that we are excited about being at the 968 membership mark. LRP committee has begun the process of the new guild website. The developer selected (Websites for Quilters) will be forwarding references for the committee to review. Please support Esther Meinhardt and Pat Joho as they collect squares for the guild to make golf cart covers for upcoming parades. We had beautifully decorated golf carts entered in the Christmas parade and they were awesome. You may bring your squares to your chapter, Sterling Heights or to a Guild meeting. President Bender reported the Country Register was available at the back of the room and was excited about the Quilting Guild article. She urged members to check it out. Each chapter president should pick up the showcase wristbands for their membership at the back of the room. Reminder that the Carolyn Heald Estate Sale of quilting and fabric supplies was today and tomorrow. Dale Angione reported that the sale of the tickets for the tree skirt raffle at the Stetson Mansion was tremendously successful. They did not display all skirts all the time, but did a rotation of the skirts available for auction. Tickets are available until January 15th and the drawing will be on January 18th at the Quilt Shop of Deland. She will be driving to the drawing and if anyone

Please check out the flyers on the sign-in table of the World Quilt Show at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, on January 8-10th and the Sewing and Quilt Expo at Lakeland, Florida on March 5-7th. The Guild Quilt Challenge is brought to us by Liza Walters. We have been challenged to provide 35 quilts each for the May and September Honor Flights for our war veterans. They need both lap quilts (sized 48x55 inches) and wheelchair quilts (sized 35x40 inches). We would like each to have a label that says: “Thank you for your Service” including the date and your chapter name. Speaker Vice President Pat Joho introduced tonight’s speaker, Carla Singer. Carla has an interesting background from creating mohair teddy bears, designing Norwegian Harbinger art to becoming certified on Cotton Theory for quilting. She shared with us the process of making quilts by Cotton Theory, which essentially is: Quilt First, then Assemble. She showed us a number of beautiful table placemats, runners (3-4 placemats) and a king size quilt (30 placemats) which were completed with this process. Closing Jill Smithson thanked our guest speaker and reminded us there are a number of new in-house classes available to members and again thanked all for being in attendance and the Sunset Point Chapter for hosting this meeting. She announced our speaker for our February meeting is Jenny Doan. Jill Smithson facilitated the drawing for the show and tell presenters. We collected $240 for our 50/50 drawing and distributed $120 in cash drawings to our members. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 pm.
