Columbia Winery™ 2017 Horse Heaven Hills Grenache Rosé With roots dating back to 1962, Columbia Winery has been discovering and celebrating Washington wine for over 55 years. Columbia’s forward-thinking philosophy continues today in the hands of a talented and innovative winemaking team led by Winemaker, Sean Hails. We believe the sum of Washington is greater than its parts, inspiring winemaking and blending philosophies rooted in discovery, sourcing our fruit from across a range of Washington’s premier AVAs. Guided by our vision of high quality, approachable wines, each season we select premier vineyard sites, refine our oak regimen and cellar techniques to impart nuance, texture, and complexity in our wines. About the Wine: Delightful and perfect for warmer weather, our 2017 Columbia Winery Grenache Rosé exhibits fresh, bright cranberry and strawberry fruit aromas. On the palate, refreshing acidity is balanced by a hint of effervescence and followed by a crisp finish. An incredibly versatile wine, this Rosé pairs perfectly with a sunny day and spicy dishes like an Indian Curry or grilled seasoned chicken. Viticulture Notes: We sourced most of the fruit for our 2017 Grenache Rosé from one of the winemaker’s favorite vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, within Columbia Valley. The 2017 vintage in Horse Heaven Hills was ideal. We saw steady days of sunshine and mild temperatures throughout the season that allowed the grapes ample time on the vines. We harvested a portion of the grapes for the Rosé in Mid-September and the balance in early October. The result was an enviable balance between bright fruit character and the classic, crisp acidity Washington is known to provide. Winemaking Notes: At the winery, the grapes for our 2017 Grenache Rosé were destemmed and pressed immediately in a gentle membrane press. The juice was cold settled and racked for fermentation, which occurred at a maximum temperature of 60˚F. Our focused efforts in the cellar resulted in a lighter color and the delicate cranberry and strawberry characteristics we love in our Rosé.
