CUTTING From each Motley Cotton Strip: 2 – 2 ½" x 21" pieces (to make 6 of each design for 48 pieces total) From each White Cotton Strip: 2 – 2 ½" x 21" pieces (to make 48 pieces) Note: For easiest assembly throughout this project, keep matching fabric pieces together in piles labeled A-H to keep them organized.

SEWING Rings: 1. Place one 2 ½" x 21" White piece and one 2 ½" x 21" Fabric A piece RST, matching short ends. Pin then sew along both short ends to make a ring (Dia. A). Press the seam allowances toward the darker fabric. Repeat with

the five remaining Fabric A and White pieces to make a total of six rings. Place Fabric A rings in a pile. 2. Repeat Step 1 with Fabric B-H pieces. Stack each design in a separate pile. Label Fabrics A-H to keep them organized. Side 1: 3. With one Fabric A ring right side up, mark 10" from the left seam in the White part of the ring. Draw a line at right angles to the long edges across the white section with a pencil. Cut on marked line to make a flat strip. Note: Only the white part of the rings will be cut for Side 1. Repeat with two more Fabric A rings. You will have three Fabric A rings set aside in a pile for Side 1 (Dia. B). Note: Remaining Fabric A rings will be used for Side 2. Dia. B

FINISHING 13. Check that Side 1 and Side 2 are equal in measurement. If not, trim them to the same size before marking the quilt. 14. On Side 1, use a removable marker or pencil to draw two parallel wavy lines for quilting about ½" apart that are centered on each horizontal seam from one side to the other (Dia. I). 15. Place Sides 1 and 2 RST, matching corners and edges. The seam allowances along the sides should already be pressed in opposite directions so that they abut or “nest” for less bulk along the seams and allow the seams to match (Dia. J). Center and pin to the batting so all layers are flat and square. 16. Sew around all sides, leaving an 8" opening on one end to turn right side out. Trim batting even with Dia. J

quilt edges and trim corners diagonally to reduce extra layers. 17. Turn right side out through the opening. Gently push the corners out and press the edges flat. Hand sew the opening closed. 18. Topstitch ¼" from all edges. On a large surface smooth the layers so they’re flat. Begin in the center, securing the layers together with safety pins spaced about a hand’s width apart. Keep the pins away from the marked lines. Machine quilt through all layers along the marked quilting lines, anchoring each line of stitches at both sides or quilt as desired. Tip: A walking foot is useful to keep layers from shifting. Remove safety pins in your path as you stitch. When the quilting is finished, remove any remaining safety pins and markings.
