2011 RMAC Men’s Soccer Tournament Champion

2011 RMAC Men’s Soccer Release Adams State College (3-10-2, 2-9-1 RMAC) Offense: Cody Sprouse (Freshman, Forward, 6-2, Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado HS) Sprouse scored his third goal of the season to tie Sunday’s match with UCCS at 1-1 late in the first half. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Defense: Michael Miller (Freshman, Goalkeeper, 6-2, Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Notre Dame HS) Miller’s 12 stops on Sunday were his second-highest total of the season, and the third time this year he has reached double digits in the category. After UCCS scored a goal in the eighth minute of action, Miller minded the net for more than 100 minutes of scoreless soccer. Team Notes: Adams State continues to improve upon its best season in the program’s short three-year history as the Grizzlies earned a 1-1 draw against the UCCS Mountain Lions on Sunday afternoon. After falling behind early, freshman goalkeeper Michael Miller played more than 100 scoreless minutes through the rest of regulation and two overtime periods, and a Johnny Mercer-assisted goal from Sprouse tied the match shortly before halftime. The goal was Sprouse’s third of the season, while Mercer recorded his second assist to expand on his single-season points record. Adams State will play its final two games of the year this weekend, both against nationally-ranked foes. On Friday, the Grizzlies will face No. 23 Colorado Mines on the road, and then conclude the regular season at home with No. 3 Fort Lewis on Sunday.

Colorado Christian University (0-15-1, 0-12-0 RMAC) Team Notes: Colorado Christian dropped a pair of games last week, 4-1 to Fort Lewis on Oct. 21 and 5-1 to Metro State on Oct. 23. The Cougars will play host to Regis on Friday before travelling to UC-Coloardo Springs on Sunday.

Colorado Mesa University (5-10-1, 5-7-0 RMAC) Offense: Danny Molineaux (Senior, Forward, 5-9, West Sussex, England/Santa Barbara CC/Richard Collyer) Molineaux scored both goals for Colorado Mesa in the team’s 2-0 victory over UCCS on Oct. 21. Defense: Micah Conrads (R-Freshman, Goalkeeper, 6-5, Cortez, Colo./Montezuma Cortez HS) Conrads made six saves to earn the shutout victory (2-0) over UC-Colorado Springs on Oct. 21.

Colorado School of Mines (9-6-1, 7-5-1 RMAC) Team Notes: The Orediggers were shutout for the first time this season in their 3-0 loss to Metro State. Tesho Akindele scored his 13th goal of the season in Colorado Mines’ loss at Regis. Baski Baker also scored his seventh goal in that same game. Both Alex Nass and Zach Page-Belknap tallied assists against Regis. Nass now has seven assists this season and Page-Belknap has five assists for the year. Colorado Mines will close out the regular season on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. against Adams State.

Colorado State University-Pueblo (4-9-3, 4-6-2 RMAC) Offense: Robert Kinsey (Senior, Forward, 5-8, Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek HS) The Pack failed to score over the weekend, but saw its greatest opportunity to score a goal come from senior Robert Kinsey. Kinsey fired off three shots, with one coming on frame, in a 1-0 loss at Fort Lewis. Defense: Jacob Blum (Senior, Goalkeeper, 6-1, Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain HS) Blum was solid in net for the ThunderWolves in their only game of the weekend, making three key saves in a 1-0 loss to Fort Lewis.

He currently ranks second in the nation in assists with 10. He leads the Skyhawks in scoring with 22 points (six goals, 10 assists). Defense: Cory Dean (Senior, Midfielder, 5-8, Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia HS) Although Dean’s role is defensive as a central midfielder, he scored a goal and had an assist this weekend, helping Fort Lewis wrap up the 2011 RMAC regular season title. He also enabled FLC to dominate possession in both wins, allowing goalkeeper Ryan Wirth to record his 11th shutout of the season on Sunday against Colorado State-Pueblo. Team Notes: Fort Lewis won a league regular season and/or postseason title for the 14th year in a 19-year stretch. The Skyhawks have won nine RMAC regular season titles (1997, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011), 10 RMAC postseason titles (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and two Colorado Athletic Conference regular season championships (1993 and 1995) since the 1993 season.
