District Goal-Student Achievement: School Improvement Plan Our Building Leadership Team recently met to develop building goals aligned with district goals recently created by the District Leadership Team. Both district and building goals are embedded in our School Improvement Plan which is attached. This document serves as a map in that it provides us clear direction for where we are to put our energies to support student learning. It is an important document in helping us have a clear focus on what is most important in our building and district. You can find the following information in this document:
Mission, Core Beliefs, District & Building Goals – p. 2 District and Building Data Dashboard & Goals – pp. 3-6 Reading Action Plan – pp. 7-11 Math Action Plan – pp. 12-16
Please feel free to visit with your child’s teacher or Dr. Hummel at

District Goals-Student Achievement & Culture and Climate: Bucket Fillers Each month we recognize 10 students, 3 staff, and 3 volunteer Bucket Fillers who have been observed to have said or done something kind that made others feel good about themselves. She not only had her picture taken with Dr. Hummel, her picture is displayed in our front hallway and she will be recognized in the Andover newspaper. The following Bucket Fillers were also recognized this month: Students - (pictured below with Mrs. Sauer -left to right; front to back) Kensie Trask, Marleigh Eberhardt, Avery Powell, Lanie Killian, Savanna Crawford, Mari Henley, Bailey Badsky, Grace Yearout, Gunner Kuker; Staff: Mrs. Shellenberger, Mr. Lee, and Ms. Hill; Volunteers: Sheryl Wiele, Tracey Eberhardt, and Claudia Edwards.
District Goal-Culture & Climate: Veteran’s Day Thanks We wish to express a Veteran’s Day thank you to servicemen and women who have served or are serving in the military. The holiday was first celebrated on Nov. 11, 1919 — on the first anniversary of the end of World War I — when it was called “Armistice Day.” It became a national holiday in 1938, twelve years after Congress passed a resolution making Nov. 11 a day for annual observance, and President Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day in 1954. According to 2013 statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 23.2 million veterans in the United States. Thank you to all who have served and sacrificed to give us our freedom. continued on next page
In support of Veteran’s Day, Mrs. Chapman and Ms. Kientz, our STUCO Co-Sponsors, have invited all students to participate in a “Sending Smiles to Service Members” campaign. This is a letter writing project for students to write letters, draw pictures, tell jokes, or anything to make a military service member laugh or smile while he or she is away from his or her family and friends. These letters or cards are due to Mrs. Chapman or Ms. Kientz by November 17th so that the letters can be mailed for the service members to receive them by Thanksgiving. District Goal-Culture & Climate: American Education Week American Education Week is November 16th-22nd. This week presents all Americans with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. While we recognize all staff at various times throughout the year, this week serves as a reminder to let every employee of a public education organization know how thankful we are to have them in our lives.
District Goal-Culture & Climate: Student Safety The cold weather has clearly decided to move in with snow being a recent reality for some states.
