ROHNERT PARK PUBLIC SAFETY

VEHICLE SMASH-AND-GRAB – REDUCING YOUR RISK During the first four months of 2017, there has been an increase in burglaries from vehicles in Rohnert Park compared to 2016. The primary method used to access vehicles has been to smash a window. The highest locations have been in parking lots when vehicles are typically parked for extended periods of time. These areas include gym parking lots, restaurants, business parking lots, and shopping centers. This also includes residential areas when the vehicle is not parked in a garage.

Help Reduce Your Risk with These Tips 1. Leave your valuables at home, work or other safe location. 2. If you need to leave valuables in your vehicle, place in the trunk or under seats before you get to your destination. Thieves will sometimes wait in parking lots to observe your actions prior to leaving the vehicle. 3. Park in well-lit areas. Try to avoid parking near larger vehicles or foliage as thieves prefer the privacy. 4. Even smaller items like sunglasses and cell phone charges are targets, so place everything in a compartment or take with you. 5. Don’t leave mail, social security cards, credit cards or debit cards in your vehicle. 6. Always lock your vehicle and close all windows.

Report all suspicious activity to Rohnert Park Public Safety. If you notice someone loitering in a parking lot or an unknown vehicle in your neighborhood driving with no obvious destination, report this activity. Be prepared to provide a description of the vehicle, vehicle plate and physical description of the occupant(s). Provide any surveillance footage related to the event to a Rohnert Park Public Safety Officer.
